The Frontier

The 1970s haze and shadow are a welcomed front, but underneath the veil is a pretty poorly acted and unoriginal caper film. Neo-noir dialogue tends to sound very silly unless a capable cast is behind it.

In the movie the former actress was talking about stars having 'it'. This movie tries hard, but it doesn't have 'it'. I really liked the retro vibes and some of the music choices, plus Jim Beaver and Jocelin Donahue are great. The plot with its twists is okay, but not too original. I liked the brutality that ensued, yet all the time I felt distanced from the movie. A good attempt, but doesn't quite end up being what it's clearly set out to be.
