The gold fields of Alaska are the setting for this Selig actioner (which was actually filmed in Colorado). While a prospector searches for the yellow stuff in the snowy wastes, a false friend misinforms the prospector's wife that her husband has been killed. Two years later, the "widow" marries for a second time, unaware that she's now a bigamist. (AllMovie)

Wow Buster is an absolute bastard in this, and he does it really well. Ranks high amongst his shorts. The opening sequence is probably the best, but the rest is still solid and funny.

An interesting break in character for Keaton, in which he plays a thieving, murdering, womanizing villain, though of course he's as buffoonish and clumsy as ever. It's got a memorable setting, and the ending is a nice meta-twist. Hilarious, and possibly my favorite of all his shorts, even if it is incomplete.

There's some seriously dark comedy in this.

Just some parts of the original movie survived. So that's why it looks incomplete.

There is some pitch black humor in this one.

Reading the Wikipedia article cleared up a lot of questions I had. Even so, not the best gags. And this was Sybil's last role and I didn't even recognise her :(

a fairly funny short in which buster differs from normal, and while he's a little more of a bad guy the man behind the movie is still the same old buster. it's got some good gags and is pretty funny, but i never busted my side with laughter.

Buster Keaton makes for a fun villain and throws in a few "Nanook of the North"-inspired scenes for good measure. He also morphs into Erich von Stroheim for a few seconds.

I wasn't really getting this -- why would anyone hold up their local casino? And why would you steal your neighbor's wife? (Well, *that* has probably happened before.) A few decent stunts, but if you don't know the backstory, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Enfim, diferente e divertido. Box OP Buster Keaton.

In this short film about Buster's misadventures in Alaska plot is even harder to follow than usually, because there are bits missing. What's interesting in it, that Buster's character is kind of evil, like in no other his short film. Also a twist in the end, which was probably cliche even in 1922, this time somehow worked for me. Too bad gags weren't funny at all. Lesser short film of Buster.

Buster gets what Buster wants . . . until he doesn't. Murder and mayhem characterize this one, and make for a pretty disorienting experience. Eventually it becomes clear that that is the point. But even with that reveal, it doesn't really elevate the material either tonally or in terms of the action.
