The Gamers: Dorkness Rising

2008
Comedy, Family/Kids

All Lodge wants is for his gaming group to finish their adventure. Unfortunately, they're more interested in seducing barmaids, mooning their enemies, and setting random villagers on fire. Desperate to rein in his players, Lodge injects two newbies into the distrust: a non-player character controlled by Lodge, who the power gamers immediately distrust, and the rarest gamer of all -- a girl. A little more focus, a little more budget, but a little less fun. Still, if you enjoyed the first, there is really no reason you won't enjoy the second. Watching it, however, will result in a severe penalty to charisma...but I'm assuming anyone reading this already has an abysmally low rating anyway.

A funny view of a gaming group and their adventure, both in-character and out. Dorkness Rising has the actors play both the characters around the table and the characters inside the fantasy, and has some very clever moments. I can't say how much of it will translate well to anyone not already familiar with a gaming scene though.

Not that bad for an amateur low-budget sort of thing. Not as annoying as a certain 'other' film with a similar title. Felt like you could relate to the group at least.

By nerds for nerds. Plenty of laughs and they got a lot out of a little budget(especially sets), but the ametureness is definitely felt. Would only recommend to those who have played tabletop RPGs before.

Much funnier than I was expecting. Anyone who's done any gaming will find plenty of laughs here, but I don't know how well it'll translate to people who are unfamiliar.

I'd recommend this to pen and paper gamers only - non-gamers may not find it as amusing.

People who know about role-playing are more likely to enjoy this movie than those who don't. It has a few jokes that play out well but most of the acting is usually sub-par. The writing though plays out to how a group of friends would act among each other. Overall the only people that will get any sort of entertainment are the target audience of this movie.

Much better in almost every way than the first movie except for the fact that this was way, way too long.
