The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil

(I just saw that Sly somehow produced this film, lol) There is nothing like a good Korean action movie, but somehow this film doesn't live up to a great premise. The characters are perennial Korean cinema stereotypes of cop, gangster (Dong-seok Ma stuck in this role) and psycho-killer, I think the biggest flaw is the too-light or not-light-enough tone of the film. Forgettable, but I expect a remake coming sometime due to the catchy premise.

Though Ma Dong-seok brings a compelling subtlety and a comedic edge to his mob boss, he might be the only thing of particular note in an otherwise regrettably forgettable picture. That the eponymous "devil" is never a threat to our protagonists is the foundational error of a screenplay with many of the right pieces.

Sorry folks but I don't see anything different this film's over countless others in the same genre. Yes, it's interesting that a cop and his team works with a gangster and his henchmen, but none of the characters have any depth. The plot is predictable and bleak, and don't get me talking about the lady in the shop that talked to the killer, or devil, but wasn't made a witness so they had to lock up Jang. As the cop says in the clichést way possible, "I'm still a cop."

The story is sometimes clever but not at all credible. I have to give them credit for some imaginative performances. The plot was not very impressive and the action while intense at times mostly felt very contrived. It was a little hard to watch with the subtitles that were badly timed for reading.

Everything it sets out to do it does well. The action when it happens is gritty and exciting, the performances are good, the premise is a kinda neat slight twist on a crime thriller, the film name is cool, and it has a good soundtrack. I wouldn't say it's a great film in any regard but it's thoroughly entertaining.

Has some fun parts, buy mostly it's schlock.

I think if there wasn't any Corona Pandemic, we have seen the Hollywood version till now!!!

Allround solid little action thriller, with an interesting premise and given that extra something by a cast tackling their roles with great zest.

This movies tries too hard to be cool. The whole cinematic tone is creatively bland but still too bright and vibrant with the colour palate. Stunts and fight scenes are spammed with quick cuts and shaky cam to hide the total lack of budget. Story is trash, dialog is cliché, characters are overplayed. Actors in the starring roles gave pretty good performances. Not enough to salvage this mediocre and forgettable airport thriller novel level story.
