The Garden of Eden

Fantastic locations, good costumes and period detail give an authentic feel to the setting, but conversely the script and acting are quite poor. The story spends too much time on trivialities, with not enough important events to make it seem worthwhile, and thus the extravagant setting is cruelly wasted. Perhaps one for the hardcore Hemingway fans, but still quite watchable as a well-shot, well-scored and aesthetically pleasing movie if you can lower your dramatic expectations.

I really wanted to love this movie but the terrible story telling and bad acting nearly caused me to lose interest in finishing it. The editing was terrible. This story might have been good if it had been told by a better director, or performed by more convincing actors. There were some beautiful settings and scenes, but a jumbled up, weak story falls apart and becomes a confusing mess, especially at the end. Ernest Hemingway would not be proud of this adaptation of his work.
