Not surprisingly, the only New Yorker who really understands what Christo is trying to achieve is a homeless man who resides in the park. Christo's art is a force for de-proletarianisation: "We live in a terrible century of banalisation and trivialisation" as he addresses our plight and the status of art as pharmakon. The only thing more remarkable than the total commitment of Christo and Jean-Claude to the cause of beauty, is the ever-presence of the Mayles brothers to record proceedings.
