The George Raft Story

Rather dull biopic that follows Rafts career of a hoodlum up to his casting in Some Like It Hot. How someone equated squinty and gruff Raft with handsome block of cheese Ray Danton I'm not sure I'll ever know, but the film's failures come less from casting than general aimlessness. Lots of extended musical sequences pad the film, and the conflict at the film's center never really picks up any heat. There are some good fleeting moments, but otherwise it's a trudge.
