Jean Parker was quite bubbly and I was surprised I hadn't seen her in anything else. The story takes awhile to establish and then ends quite quickly, but it wasn't bad. I wish we spent more time in America and seen some ghost culture shock. Also more Scottish lasses with low cut tops. Some nice gags about the value of the castle. I want to deduct points for never answering the riddle. Fav scene: following McLaggan running through several doors.

A middling movie, OK, but not above that, ordinary, plot. Some laughs but mostly smiles. Romantic aspect just doesn't really ignite for mine. There is absolutely no horror for a modern audience from the castle ghost. Seems a bit overrated on my viewing. Certainly not a bad movie and fans of movies from the period will allow it some grace in its shortcomings. (on edit) Wasn't greatly thrilled on first watch and even less so on rewatch. Seems laboured and tries too hard, some smiles.

Aside from Robert Donat's wonderful performance, this film is pretty lackluster. Jean Parker was a cutie pie, shame she never found A-list success.

This movie has some bright spots but those don't really outweigh the boring script. I'm sure some of the boredom comes from the time which the movie was made but that isn't really an excuse. There is a lot of critical shots taken at Americans that turned out to be pretty funny. I especially like the man who bought the castle puts a radio in everything; not matter how goshe it really is. There is also a moment where Congress is juxtaposed with Parliament fighting over moving the castle.

A rather uninteresting fantasy/comedy that should be unreasonably horrible, but ends up only being on the cusp of bad. There are no laughs, the story isn't too hot, and nothing is thrown in to cover those facts up.

René Clair comes to England to make movies! And his first English speaking movie is a International blend with Scots going to US after the rich American Eugene Pallette buys a Scottish castle and moves it across the ocean. Along with it a ghost! Yeah, not a very serious movie. A silly one in fact. But you get Robert Donat in a dual role. Not enough ghost-Donat! But he did get to chase his enemy around the castle for the highlight of the movie! A light comedy and Donat is the foundation.
