The dumping of radioactive waste in the ocean disturbs a prehistoric monster than can project electric shocks and radioactive beams. After terrorizing the English coast, it is discovered that if the creature is destroyed with conventional weaponry it would spread a dangerous amount radioactive contamination over the entire country, with this fact preventing the military from attacking the monster as it nears London. Stop motion pioneer Willis O' Brien struggles with a low budget in his last big project, which results in the creature often being represented by a stiff paper mache prop, but there are some interesting effects sequences nonetheless (an early use of stop-motion shakycam among them), and the film strikes a more serious and macabre tone than most dinosaur-on-the-loose pictures.

More dead pan monster mayhem staring Willis H. O'Brien's maniacal handiwork.

Things get much more interesting once the monster starts attacking London starting from a boat on the Thames. I was expecting a preachy atomic age warning about the dangers of radioactive waste but the movie didn't go there, probably for the better. The effects are low budget and clearly shots of miniatures are stitched with human responses. The behemoth itself doesn't look too bad though. Fav scenes: attack on the boat; chomping at electrical wires and towers.
