The Gingerdead Man

Watching this was the latest one in a string of horrible life decisions.

Let's be honest, anyone who knowingly went in to watching this movie did so with notably low expectations, considering it being a "Full Moon" movie about a killer cookie starring Gary Busey and all. Unfortunately, even then, Charles Band and company still managed to deliver a disappointing schlockly bore. Instead of being some kind of campy fun, or having some so-bad-it's-good saving grace, the movie is over packed full of filler, like a gingerbread cookie made with 98% sawdust flour.

This hopelessly executed horror-comedy lacks the charm, humour or self-awareness to make such a silly concept work, and its phenomenal badness provides no comical value in itself. The script is so poor that even Gary Busey can't make his lines the least bit amusing.

Besides the pure novelty of the goings-on I can't find much to recommend here. It's almost pure filler with characters wandering 'round an ill lit bakery to no avail with little in the way of kills nor even much bloodletting. Garey Busey hardly makes anything at all of his role and the Gingerdead Man himself is not much more than a namesake. However the next two sequels are worth checking out, as they get the ingredients just right.

It's not funny. It's not unintentionally funny. It's SUPPOSED to be funny. What part of "Gary Busey plays a homicidal maniac trapped in a gingerbread man" is hard to fuck up? All of it, it seems. Horrendous. I have seen worse though - at least it tries, on a base level, to have a coherent narrative, and clearly some effort was put into the ending. Not enough to be any good, but there clearly was a small spark of genius when the question "why don't we EAT the bad guy?" was raised.

A talking, walking murderous gingerbread man, and Gary Busey to boot? Must be great, right? No. Do not be fooled; this movie is not funny in its awfulness. It's just awful.

Thankfully, as a homicide gingerbread man film, the creators decided to make it a comedy and not take itself too seriously. Its still not a good film though. Its also a little sad to see Gary Busey in this, especially since he ends up as a voice for an exceptionally ugly puppet for most of it.

Crazy Gary Busey in a "Child's Play" inspired horror movie. Much better then it has any right to be.

Points for Gary Busey. This is not, however, a good movie.

Beyond bad... so bad it's not even so bad it's good. Best thing about it was ignoring the "plot" and spotting all the different legitimate reasons the bakery should go bust.

I've seen some terrible films in my life, but this one takes the biscuit!

You'd think this movie would be fun, but it really never lives up to its potential. Disappointing even from a bad movie standpoint.

Worth a few points for Gary Busey... I can just imagine him trying to direct the scene he was in. When he turns into a cookie, everything crumbles. And yes, the quality of that joke is about equal to the quality of this movie.
