Hartley got on the spot for a minute there. Rest is extremely dull with overbearing sensuality.

Cheap digital video effects. Stop doing this. You are not Kar Wai Wong, Mr. Hartley.

Rewatch. Years ago was put off by the look of it but can appreciate it more now; the varying frame rate complements the bleary colors and low resolution. In a better world we would more easily accept films that look like this. Most dystopian material triggers my skepticism but this was ahead of the curve in a few respects and has some winning dialogue. It may be my favorite HH soundtrack as well.

It's such a long way down... and strange. The word becomes... flesh... no, the body remains... what?

Struggled with this one. Ideas carry some interest, but execution never really paid off. Thought it started interesting enough, but I ultimately didn't care about these characters enough to make the journey worthwhile.

The film had some potentially interesting ideas, but I didn't really understand the purpose of the alien angle; it seemed totally unnecessary and uninteresting. Love Hartley, in general, but I did not love this.
