Because I'm a sucker for time travel I gave this a try, and was completely swept away by the beauty and sadness in this charming high school story about love, friendship and second chances. The music is perfect, the scenery looks great and though it lacks closure in the ending it just w贸rked for me. So I got a little misty-eyed in some parts, so what? ...don't.. DON'T JUDGE ME, MAN!

More of a solemn meditation on the cumulative impact of life's little moments on both our sadness and joy, than a high-school drama. Quite touching in a melancholic way, and very readily relatable to the little moments in our own life when we might want to try it over. Familiarity with Japan's culture is important for enjoying this, but picturesque artwork and a good score give it the added qualities to make it one of the most beautiful anime features of the decade.

An excellent film that entices one to think both retroactively and proactively about one's choices and their consequences. It would've received one tier higher had its loose ending not left a sour taste in my mouth.

Criticker duped me! I thought it would be sci-fi bonanza, but it's really just Buddhism for teenagers, with a story slightly reminiscent of 'Groundhog Day'. Horrible voice acting (well, the laughing and crying bits) ruined key moments, and let me just say this: I wouldn't travel down the stairs from my apartment to see a painting, let alone through time.

The explanation for this all is beyond ridiculous; insulting, actually. The giggly high school setting, romance, and bland characters also gets old.

Riddled with plot holes or extremely dense and multi-layered? I can't answer that, nor would I argue against either point as it doesn't seem to really matter. It's more of a "what-if" scenerio with rich character interactions then it is about time-travel.

The high-school trappings can get kind of banal, but this film uses its time-travel concept not to simply consider the moral consequences and logical paradoxes of a non-existent technology (as is far too often the case) but to reflect upon the inevitability of life's disappointments and the joys of its small surprises. Sad and contemplative.

Neat little movie. I'm not usually into animated films, especially Japanese anime, but this one had a really intriguing premise and an almost hypnotic visual sense. I'd recommend it to sci fi or anime buffs.

On small moments, on what we take for granted, and on the desire to do it all over again. A more contemplative vision of time travel, one not unwelcome. The animation is simple but compelling, really adding to the airy summer feel, allowing you to really feel character by movement alone.

Like most time travel movies it falters when it becomes overreliant on that aspect of the story near the end. Other than that it's a highly enjoyable film with nice animation and an original story and setting.

This is a good variety of sci-fi. There's a solid, human story at the core of everything, and the sci-fi elements just enhance the story, rather than clouding it or working against it. I think that stuff gets laid on a little thick toward the end, as the story takes a pretty sudden turn in a new direction, but overall it's still a creative premise.

Enjoyable and charming time-travel/high-school-'coming-of-age' story not involving major time-travel dilemmas or futuristic scenarios. Has quite a different take on time travel than I'm used to, and doesn't seem to take the whole thing too seriously; which is alright, this being more about a teenage girl and her troubles with love and adulthood than time travel in the first place. Likeable characters all around but a bit un-fulfilling ending.

It's one of the most poorly executed anime films I've seen of all time. The animation is beautiful, but that doesn't save it from a rather dreadfully boring cast of characters, some very silly dialogue, and and overall horrible pacing of the entire movie. It's like the movie slowly chugs along as if it's trying to get somewhere that it never reaches.

Stylish anim茅. Beautiful backgrounds and nice uses of slow-mo. A few spectacular moments (the train arrives and just before, a student goes beserk). Some great classical music tracks on the score. These elements, along with the fact that time travelling and coming of age very much is my thing, allowed me to forgive some of the less strong parts, including an underwhelming ending.

Ok this was damn cute. A gentle high school coming of age romcom with an offbeat time travel device & enjoyably spacey atmosphere. Good voicework, effective pace & makes fantastic use of the animated format with measured composition, strong visual motifs & evocative editing. Nice music as well. Just the right mix of intensely relatable thematic backbone, charming character comedy and light touched creative madness. What it perhaps lacks in meaty writing it makes up for in resonant execution.

it's a pretty fun story that is a bit on the melodramatic side and hits a couple too many cliches that animes frequently have. there was far less development on the sci-fi aspect than i would have liked, but it's a fairly enjoyable movie.

On any other day, this would've been the best time travel film I saw. But it somehow worked out that I saw this and Looper on Saturday, so this has to settle for second-best. Ah well. This is an assured, clever and sweet look at time travel, with well-drawn characters and an involving storyline.

Great story and animation. Good mix of characters, comedy and drama. The animation does really work well with the story in this case, as something as improbable as time travel is made to look second nature. The plot does lose a bit of steam as is seems to lose sight of what it tried to achieve, and the ending isn't as strong as you might like but it's not enough to take away from what has come before.

The Girl Who Leapt Through time stands as the epitome of animated films. Every aspect of the film is substantial in its own respect; there are no other films that weave such a composition of perfection. The art, though simple, is gorgeous; the screenplay is original and clever; and the direction flawless. I hate the fact I will never be able to see this for the first time again. Thus, cherish your first viewing of this because I would do anything to experience such magic once again.

A great story about not taking things for granted. The thing that I really liked about this movie is that they don't give you that they don't just give you a happy neatly packaged Hollywood ending, the ending you do get perfectly fits the story and lets the characters have added depth and a life outside of the confines of the story.

Somehow I wasn't expecting to need a box of tissues handy for a movie called "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" - but this movie absolutely moved me to my very core. I connected with the depth and development of the characters on a very deep, emotional level - and for me, that carried this straight into greatness. The lead girl in particular, I just fell in love with. This is one I'll be able to watch over and over again. Mamoru Hosoda is a master of emotions.

Boring, two-dimensional characters, paired with a boring, two-dimensional plot. How can a movie set in four or more dimensions be so flat!! The animation is slightly above average. The time-travel aspects are convoluted even by time-travel-movie standards. Too many plot holes.

There's nothing particularly original or profound about these time scrambling plot devices, but this is a light, funny, and effectively romantic little film. For all the liberties it takes with chronological literacy, where the film truly succeeds is at capturing a summery still life. It's full of these small leisurely moments that set tone and pace, grounding the film just enough so that its coming-of-age characterizations are more believable despite the fantastical sci-fi scenario.
