The Girl from the Third Row

This was supposed to be Ekman's optimistic response to the "nihilism" of Ingmar Bergman's first few films. I don't find it convincing as such, but otherwise it's a lovely and fun little film, whose plot forecasts "The Earrings of Madame De...", and resembles Max Ophuls in general and, by proxy, Arthur Schnitzler (who may have in fact been an influence).

In a odd way I ended-up liking this for the reason it reminded me of the happy depression in early talkie pictures. Don't ask, just know that the drama here is of the humorous kind.
