Grim techno thrillers are not normally my thing but Lisbeth Salander is certainly an original and compelling hero and so it's good to see her back, especially since far less time is devoted to Larsson's fantasy version of himself, Blomkvist. There are also some major plotholes (why does the US govt only have one man in charge of its most dangerous program? How do the Spiders know they won't need Merchant?) but this adds a great antagonist to the Salander mythos while hitting the required notes.

While it's somewhat dispiriting to see Salander and her world stripped of everything that made her edgy and unique, this is still a superior example of the run-of-the-mill Bourne-like techno thriller, with Foy overcoming her miscasting to be surprisingly good as a very different type of 'Elizabeth'. Gripping action scenes are well executed; the film overall is nothing particularly memorable, but if you like your thrillers steely and sleek, look no further!

Non-stop brutal entertainment despite a deluge of plot holes and stupid decisions. It might help that I have never been remotely fascinated by the walking cliché that is Lisbeth Salander.

I guess I'm that dork that still feels like this is Rooney Mara's character despite the fact that she only played Lisbeth one time. That's not to take anything away from what is a pretty good performance by Claire Foy. I followed this well enough, it was entertaining enough, but I can't really say that I was hooked, even though there's plenty of material in there to hook an audience. Not a complete disappointment, but a title that I will be the first to admit to hoping for more from. It's fine.

Solid movie all-around, plenty of style and good action choreography. If you think about what you'd expect from the best Bond/spy/crime action movies, this hits many of those notes.

Nothing meant anything. Big giant world defense macguffin, conspiracy, constipated straining character drama. It's all a big sigh. With no stakes, the mediocre action meant even less. It's beyond safe, it's tired. Go to bed

It had plenty of action. The characters were a bit underdeveloped but quite interesting. The premise was exciting and the plot moved along quickly. Performances were good. Claire Foy was magnificent. There were a few unrealistic moments, but overall it was quite fun, exciting, unpredictable and enjoyable. Exceptional music and sound and good film quality. The flaws are far outweighed by the volume of excitement and action. Well worth watching.

??NOT like Fincher version or Swedish trilogy or books: Not suspense/serial-killer type. (S of Lambs, Seven etc) Now perfectly serviceable woman-lead action movie a la Batman/Bourne. MUCH more enjoyable if you have ZERO ?? for originals or came into this totally ignorant of them. Not bad & if it was titled say 'Torment' or 'Dark Vengeance' etc and not meant 2 be Liz Salander I'd enjoy it more. --- V Busy ?. Hope 2 review (in detail) when time. For now, just score & maybe n
