Weirdly paced, but Glenn Close was surprisingly badass, and - unlike most "regular" zombies - these feral beasts were seriously discomforting.

I like the reverse structure it has. It gripped me early on. Generally zombie flicks loses steam by the end and settles for some version of -one last blast. This film gets done with the major action first, then becomes a slow burner. The ending/coming of age was noteworthy.

A solid zombie movie that tries to instill a little originality into the genre. Being a low budget British production along the lines of 28 Days Later it relies on tension and solid character performances rather than spectacle. Worth watching just for Sennia Nanua's eerie performance, which is outstanding for a first-time child actor, and she carries the film. Also of note is the superb soundtrack by de Veer, who I've been a fan of since I first heard is work on UK TV's superb Utopia sci-fi show

I prefer the book, but the actors and general creepiness hold this together enough to be pretty good.

There's really very little new you can do with the zombie genre, but "The Girl..." still manages to look relatively fresh thanks to a small but strong cast and the best inner-city zombie feel since 28DL. Also, a willingness to turn the old clichés on their heads.

1) buy and play "the last of us". 2) realize how this movie is in no way an original approach to the genre. 3) play "the last of us" again, because it's the fucking best narrative ever conceived in a videogame.

A more serious attempt to the many lamebrain zombie movies that get made. A welcome one, even if zombie flicks isn't exactly what I look most forward to. At least there was some attempt at logic, or morals even, compared to the straight slashers. Surreal seeing Glenn Close in one of these.

The Girl with All the Gifts is a relatively low budget (at about four million) zombie apocalypse movie, which is reminiscent of 28 Days Later in mood rather than content. The world that's gradually introduced is believable the characters are strong (no doubt helped by a top cast), and there's plenty of originality to keep things interesting. This one is definitely worth watching.

Good fast frightening infected instead of the usual shambling undead this is pretty good. Good characters, lots of unsettling scenes, and a good dose of spooky. Definitely worth watching.

Remember the scene at the end of "Shaun of the dead", when Shaun and Ed are in the shed playing video games? This ends like that. Shame, because it starts well enough, has superb set design, good acting (Close is terrific), and a story that seems like it might spiral to oblivion, but humans seem completely incapable of depicting their own demise. Like most films of this genre, the plot is riddled with holes, such as how did the kids eat once everything had been turned to zombie meat, but hey ..

Really great design, the sound in particular. Every few years there comes along a film which justifies the otherwise so done-to-death zombie genre. This is fantastic.

Chintzy-looking and pedantic zombie plot, but make no mistake: this is a movie with some BIG IDEAS and holy shit does Sennia Nanua carry this whole movie on her back and deliver an absolutely devastating performance.

Interesting movie and interesting ending, I liked it. Movie does feel fresh although it could be so, so much better. Some plot holes and stupid decisions all over the place but hey, it's a horror film.

Technically a mix-match of ideas from other titles that has tried to renew the zombie/post-apocalypse genre before. Arguably featuring a coming-of-age bowtie that collapses the story onto itself. World building-wise, however, it is one of the best zombie movies that comes to mind.

Went into this without knowing the basic plot. Plays with viewer expectations really well at beginning of film. Looks amazing for such a small budget, acting is all above par too. Reminiscent of John Wyndham 1950's British sci-fi, and captures the essence of Richard Matheson's I Am Legend far better than the Will Smith movie. Would definitely put on a shelf with 28 Days Later.

Original spin on the zombie genre benefits from a low-key, grungy set design and a believable depiction of a 'lived in' post apocalyptic world; fine cast play all of their roles with conviction, especially young Nanua; highlighted though by Close's magnificent performance as the subtly sinister doctor.

Which intern came up with this movie title? How literal can you get? Anyway, it has a different take on the zombie genre and I quite liked it. The last act is not how I would have done it, but it is still worth watching. Recommended.

What is it with competent British zombie movies and their wholly incompetent happy endings tacked on by evil film corporations who think the hearts and minds of the mewling masses are too fragile to handle tragic resolution? Something tells me there's a director's cut that ends the movie on Spock and Kirk rocking the V through the plexiglass (let me be the first to apologize to the evil film corporations if there isn't and the writer is simply a fucktwat).

Not just another stupid zombie movie. The story and acting performances were excellent. Many thrilling moments and tender ones as well. Glenn Close was good as the determined doctor. Gemma Arterton was really good and very cute. Young Sennia Nanua was very good. It has some snarly violence. The story is compelling. Excellent music. Excellent settings except for scenes set in near darkness. Overall it was engaging and quite thrilling. The ending was unexpected. Well worth watching.

Zombie movie where zombies turn in to plants and kids of zombie's are inexplicably sentient. They never really went very far into explaining how all this stuff works, but that's to be expected from a horror movie. I was pretty dissatisfied by the "inherit the earth" message at the end, it just kinda overlooked how exactly reconstruction would occur. I can forgive the plot oversights for some relatively big names, and some slightly above average zombie action.

Two quick thoughts. One, in terms of zombie antagonists, these are much closer to the menacing "28 Days Later" zombies, which I prefer, than the meandering herd zombies. Two, for being what looks like para-military, some of these soldiers are terrible shots. Also apparently zombies sleep and walk their zombie babies. So there's some give and take here. Takes on a very "Last of Us" feel midway through. Within the lexicon of zombie cinema, this is probably above-average. Check it out!

Only just realised the author Mike Carey is a well known Marvel Comics writer so I wish him well. I'm sure the book is better than the movie, this didn't work for me though,it's not brought anything new to the zombie genre of note.

I didn't care much for the book, but it was better than this movie. Not that this was bad either, but it didn't feel right. Gemma Arterton felt like the Miss Justineau I imagined, but that was about it.

Started reasonably, although it's really just another avoid-the-zombies movie. However, much like Return of The Jedi everything takes a nosedive as soon as the ewoks appear. And the ending is awful.

Nothing amazingly new, but still brings somewhat of a freshness to the genre, apart from the '2nd' ending. One does wonder how it will go with decent acting and direction. Not amazing but a decent watch. The music deserves a mention though as it creates an amazing atmosphere.

There are things to like, such as the fast zombies who actually show some intelligence, and I enjoy the approach this takes that makes it feel a little fresher than a lot of zombie movies. Good, and slightly odd, soundtrack that adds a weird but menacing atmosphere. Not the most exciting, trying to be more cerebral, but comes across as a little silly, especially with the ending. Parts that could have been cool (like Melanie alphaing the kids zombies) ended up being silly rather than neat.

4*ish film of a 5*+ BOOK! But any book is almost always better than film. Or at least deeper, more profound (with very rare & special exception of American Psycho) & that is DEFINITELY the case here. PLS Read book 1st (knowing nothing of story if U can & it unfolds brilliantly). THEN watching the film will be a QUITE satisfying visualization & simplification of a book that, hopefully, will've touched ur heart as platonic love-story & tickled brain, morals like an Asimov/Wyndham thought provoker.

There's not much new territory to explore in the zombie genre, but this film at least tosses out some new and fresh meat for zombie fans to gorge on. I found it hard to get into at some points because the characters quite frankly weren't that interesting. They all felt like archetypes more so than actual people. There's also some tonal issues at play that made it difficult for me to take things serious as direly as they were portrayed. Flawed, but not horrible.

Does something new with the zombie genre. Devoid of grand attack scenes but manages to be gripping with clever tension buildup and tactic withholding of information as long as possible. Slightly off the mark conclusion but overall a good movie.

It is a different zombie movie for sure, with some interesting concepts that I haven't seen before. I was left with a feeling that there could have been even more examination to the way the characters think to flesh them out more as the plot is based a lot on the character motivations and emotions. Still, I very much enjoyed it, but I also think that being a fan of 'The Last of Us' -games contributed to this some.

It's not very well written, the characters do stupid things and it has major tonal issues, but it was at least somewhat entertaining and not a complete waste of time. Enter the fucking Flintstones Kids, however, and I lost my patience. I couldn't finish it.
