'Pel' Pelham is a veteran carnival barker who's happily married and desperately wants a good education for his young son. With money borrowed from bookie Tony Lewis, he persuades Sapolio, a professional "starving man," to attempt to break his own world's record of 65 days without food. Sapolio and his wife throw a party in their flat but when a girl in an upstairs apartment is murdered, suspicion falls on Pel and Tony Lewis, the girl's former boyfriend. (imdb)

Billed as a Hammer noir, but it's not very noirish - or even much of a thriller. The killer's ID is given away at the start, so there's not much in the way of suspense or mystery either. It's all very routine and formulaic. But John Ireland is always worth a watch, the stuff with the carnival performers and the whole David Blaine-style starvation stunt is interesting, and it is only an hour long.
