Any movie that has Warner Herzog confessing that every morning, in lieu of a cup of joe, he kills an animal with his bare hands has something going for it.

Ray Romano actually managed to get a few giggles out of me, showing that's he's a pretty deft improviser when, ahem, the chips are down. David Cross, Chris Parnell and Herzog provide the biggest laughs. Honestly, with a cast like this, "The Grand" could have been one of the funniest movies of '07. Maybe of the decade.

This is really a mixed bag, at times corny and stupid and at times clever and hilarious. You also have to be into poker and know some of the famous pro poker players to get some of the references. And Werner Herzog is great of course, he could read the back of a cereal box in his serious documentary voice and it would be funny.

If this wasn't for Herzog's self-parody this would be completely unwatchable, instead it's just almost completely worthless.

Without any real plot it mostly tries to make fun of those inserts you see in poker shows but doesn't succeed.

Waffles a bit uncomfortably between five or six different styles, at one moment comedically similar to Curb Your Enthusiasm, the next, a Guy Ritchie movie or something like Juno. Still, Woody Harrelson, Chris Parnell, and David Cross are very funny, and the film does create some intriguing drama. I'd say that if you enjoyed Celebrity Poker Showdown, you'll probably enjoy this movie.

I see what they're doing here, and there are some funny moments, but watching people play poker is still watching people play poker. It's boring as fuck. I felt at times like the movie wanted to make me give a shit about what someone's hand was, and who was going to win the pot. Really? No, they're barking up the wrong tree there. The only reason I watched this movie is because I assumed that the poker table scenes would be funny. Instead, that's where the funny stopped.

it may sound lame, but the more this movie gets about poker, the less funny it actually is. Really liked the first half.

This is a very funny movie with a great ensemble cast. This is in the spirit of the Christopher Guest improvised movies. This is a good movie even if you do not play poker. I recommend this film.

Kinda funny if you dig poker, some valid insights into the game and the lack of sport.

Interesting premise, with some interesting, but the Grand is far from Grand. A film that is composed of cheesy dialogue, interactions that are overly awkward and seemingly pointless. The occasional laugh is drawn by David Cross's ability to keep a straight face and Ray Romanos cheesy little sayings that somehow just a little bit of sense. Overall skip out on The Grand unless you have three days to do nothing you and want to watch this.

I always imagined Ray Romano to be like his character in this movie. Also, David Cross rules.

I just enjoyed watching this cast playing poker that I didn't care about the lame jokes.

You will like it more if you play poker I guess , but it's alsow funny when you don't. All the characters play there stereo-type role very funny and in this way the film brings different kinds of humor. The scripts was only a few pages thick , and you can see that the director let the actors improvise a lot. But for me it works almost every time.

Lots of interview style footage, some poker, not much, but not bad.

Very hit or miss. Always fun to see Herzog caricaturing himself and Parnell is a delight, but it's a little too unfocused and too often leans into cheesy eye-rolling jokes. The final poker table seemed to be a better idea in theory than in practice, as it's neither good poker nor particularly funny.
