To save the life of a substitute daughter (real daughters taking up so much of a man's time, keeping him from work and other things he really cares about) and keep the approval of a substitute father (real fathers being nothing but violent punishers), a man has to commit a vast number of crimes, because another, similar man, but with no substitute father or daughter, and therefore no constraint, is determined to keep putting him in situations where he has no choice. Being a good man is so hard.

Evans and Gosling elevate standard action fare and the action sequences are pretty good. Also at some point maybe they'll let Ana de Armas actually headline her own movie.

While I had hoped for more, given all of the talent involved, I really have no serious issues with this. It's an action movie about a complete badass going up against hordes of enemies, also including Armas, who has proven herself a worthy action star. I really like Gosling in general and while they didn't give him a ton to work with verbally, he handled the aggression and physicality well. The action choreography is not to the level of the very best, nor is the Russo directing, but it's fun.

I don't really get the vitriolic hate this movie's gotten. It's by no means perfect; over long, unoriginal and a bit unbalanced. That being said, the action is fine, the dialogue is fun, Gosling and especially Evans turn in really cool performances, and I did kind of like the minimalism behind the overall style of the film. Don't know if I need a sequel but for what this was, I'm willing to see where they'll go.

While, "The Gray Man" might be guilty of the same defects that blight most Netflix movies, namely blandness and cliches, it's still a well produced, action packed movie with actors of pedigree. So, it's no more rancid than your run-of-the-mill summer actioner with Statham or Neeson, a time waster, that's all.

The Gray Man’s two hours of carefully choreographed action scenes, continent-spanning location shooting, quippy exchanges, and hard drive-straining special effects plays exactly like the backward engineered franchise starter the Times article describes. It’s all spinning parts orbiting around a hollow center.

Generic, mildly entertaining big, dumb summer blockbuster film. A well done set piece or two and some visually impressive parts (especially 1st scene), but ultimately is completely unremarkable, derivative, and dispensable. Hard to put my finger on anything new or different about it. Not even the acting talent really elevates it. Loosely based on the first Gray Man novel. Some changes made from the novel make sense while some don't. Not the worst way to spend 2 hours, but can safely be skipped

Mostly quite good. Bourne style in many ways, but with a bit more humor. It feels big budget and has strong moments, like the tram chase. It also imbues a lot more style, like in the opening. So the first half is just pretty great. Lloyd (Evans) is sometimes okay but was often too corny/jokey to make it work. Also the end feels really weird, like the story was rewritten a few times. There are some weird story moments too, which come with a MacGuffin, but nothing too heinous.

Mavi gözlerine kurban olduğum Ryan Gosling, Bourne hikayesinin devam filmi gibi karşımıza çıkıyor. Bu sefer CIA ajanlarının işi batırmaya yakınken yedek ekip olan Gray Man'lerin hikayesi anlatılmış. Senaryo saçmalıklarını es geçip, aksiyon sahneleri ve Hırvatistan'daki mekana bayıldım. Prag sahnelerinden sonra hız düşmüyor. Yaz ayında dondurma gibi. Filmin sonunda, kızım başım üstüne. Git ara bul getir. Saçlarını yol getir.

Imagine having a 200 million dollar budget, as well as some of the most charismatic actors in the world and making this. The screenplay has some fun tropes and solid structure, but isn't smart, nor stupid enough to really grab you. Gosling is the one bright spot. He's in the parallel universe where this movie was confidently directed. Evans and de Armas feels constrained by their characters. When you aren't even able to use the raw charisma of Armas, you are doing something wrong.

Moyen.

The Russo Brothers are very talented directors, I'm sure of that. The Winter Soldier is still my favorite Marvel action movie. So I thought they would do a great job with The Gray Man on a big budget, but I was wrong. Of course, there were moments when I laughed and enjoyed watching, but overall I was really bored. By the way, the most important problem that I am shocked is not that the script is dull, but that the action scenes are also mediocre. The Gray Man was a real disappointment.

Big, expensive, and largely pretty bad. I’m sure many of the action scenes looked cool if you could see them through the dimly lit, smoked filled, and drone populated photography. Gosling and Evans are charismatic but have to spout some really bad dialogue.

Mission Impossible without the excitement. I'll watch anything with Ryan Gosling, but I struggled staying focused through this. Would not say it's bad, but you can definitely feel the soullessness that permeates all the Russo brothers' productions. It's sterile and assembled in a lab. Action scenes run too long and are overproduced with an unnecessary reliance on VFX to clean up the sloppy practical work. Any serious or weighty moment is undercut by a gag or joke.

Starts promisingly, with good colour. Falls into generic action film, which is a shame as many good actors in it. Some good action scenes. Interesting to see Gosling this bulky. Clean cut Chris Evans, surprisingly good as moustachioed bad guy.

The expressionless Gosling trope is repetitive and unappealing at this point, having been the same for almost a decade now. Too many pointless detours. Action is good; however, an overload of absurd action is not. By the end, I knew I am not watching a second one if it turns into a franchise. Still can't figure out why I am going with an additional star.

A decent big budget action flick. Misses a chance to do something unique and overcomplicates its formula, but Gosling and de Armas are charming, the action is fun, the CIA is just straight up the villain (canonically accurate), and behind its unending location tags it even looks alright (though the tilting drone shots were tacky). Forgettable but enjoyable.

It was a bit long but enjoyable. Likeable and fun heroes, some nice action scenes, and fun one-liners. However it falls short in story and the ending felt a bit flat and unsatisfactory with a "twist" that added 20 minutes of runtime that could have been left out completely. Also, a bit too many sweeping drone shots...

Lots of extra points for Ana de Armas, Billy Bob Thornton and Ryan Gosling. The plot is good, but quite implausible. Despite that, the is a ton of action, good fights, gun play, good characters and crazy setups. Some of it is a very wild ride, deserving a second viewing. I don't often want to re-watch anything, but this one I do. So, don't think too hard, turn your brain off a little, and enjoy the wild ride. It was surprisingly satisfying and often fun to watch.

The action scenes sucked and it was hard to tell what was going on during many of the fights. Ryan Gosling is not a good action star please stop trying to turn him into one. I don't even think he is that good of an actor, while not as bad as let's say, Jared Leto, I still find him to be extremely overrated. The Russo Brothers, also very overrated managed to make yet another generic, largely average action film with terrible editing. Did I mention that the dialogue sucked?

It was ridiculously over-the-top action sequences featuring a very likeable Ryan Gosling and a slimy Chris Evans. My favorite part is the hot chick from Iron Fist being in it, though less hot now. If they tried taking this film seriously, I'd probably hate it, but the entire thing was tongue-in-cheek, which had me chuckling at how stupid it all was. The movie isn't great, it doesn't try to be great, and ends up being stupid fun you can't help but like.

This movie squanders all potential with explosions, a beautiful Ana De Armas an 8 Dollar haircut and a pornstache. Ana is talented no doubt as are Gosling and Evans but they are completely wasted on a mediocre script with some really bad one liners. Nothing gripping about this film in anyway shape or form. About as meaningless and predictable as an action film can be.

I happen to be a Gosling fan but he's miscast. This role requires a feral quality; we have to believe he's dangerous, a glint in the eye, an inner core of coldness he doesn't have. Evans as the heavy seems to be having a good time playing a sort of preppie hitman.
