Amber Tamblyn walks around this movie literally clueless, as the little dead boy that meows and the grudge girl that makes the burping noise keep showing up, not to scare so much, but to annoy and then fade-out after a humorous death from one of the prop characters. There is absolutely no reason to see this, it's ridiculous - the only hint of a story comes in at the end with a bit more explanation on the history of this 'grudge,' which is a direction that comes in too late to venture.

What really pisses me off is that they included absolutely every bit that was supposed to be creepy into the trailer, meaning that once you'd seen the trailer the "scary" stuff didn't catch you by surprise even once. Not that it would've anyway. Utterly predictable. Utterly boring. Utterly atrocious.

Not as good as the first movie, which wasn't that good either.

This is a movie with a lot of flaws. I was rather surprised to see Sarah Michelle Gellar come back for such a small role with such a bad script. I thought that the mother and son ghost team were very creepy looking until they started making those goofy sounds also. They were rather chilling, but when you looked at the situation that was happening, it was just boring. The beginning started off promising, but the story was so flawed, the ending bad and the rules from the first were out. Waste

So some of the scenes are creepy, and the story is somewhat engaging for the first half. After that is the long waiting game of watching the cast die off and trying to care about the film's highly over-complicated plot. I'd avoid this one.

Plot, what plot? Tons of creepy imagery but the plot really never goes anywhere.

The Grudge 2 follows up The Grudge by being pretty much the same in both its problems and its plot, except it contains even more exposition that we don't care about or need. It's still not a scary movie, the characters are still not deep or interesting, and I just got tired of the same formula of Kayako haunting and then killing random people. I got worn down by this movie, and in the end, I wished I had never watched it.

Competently made horror effort is not as obnoxiously bad as the worst that the 00s threw up, but there seems to be more a focus on plodding exposition than scares; some mildly unsettling moments (Gellar’s ultimate fate is a highlight) and a nice bit of “Mean Girls” work from Palmer are sort of worth hanging in there for, but overall it’s a bit of a snooze.

It has a few genuinely creepy scenes littered throughout but it's still undeniably bad.

Pretty much more of the same but, I thought the first was a little better. Set-piece visuals and jump-scares take precedence over the toxic female relationships and misogyny that make the Onryō idea interesting. Shame; there's a reboot-a-comin' though so fingers crossed.

Boy, did I get this one wrong in my initial assessment. Nowhere near as good as the first (American) film, thanks to shotgunning characters and settings at us with very limited scare factor. The investigative bits with Amber Tamblyn were cool though, but the closure with her character's mom was forced as hell. It was like the screenwriter just learned the meaning of the word "crescendo" and just chucked that in, and the editor was strangely uncritical of the director's decision to film it.

I watched this after part 1. Part 1 was a nice movie, but this sequel seemed a bit pointless to me; it was less suspenseful and scary. The plot and characters felt more cheap too. We now know the grudge too, so it feels less scary watching it in the second movie. Moreover, there were instruments taken from the first film which were implemented here too. I think it is better to watch the first one, and leave this one alone.

Better than The Grudge, though I suspect that is just because it isn't limited by being a remake of a so-so movie with white people. Giving Kayako more backstory was silly and ultimately pointless, cheapening the other movies.

What I want out of any sequel, especially a horror sequel, is changing things up...and this isn't much of a switch in structure. I did enjoy it more than I thought I would

One should not expect much more than we saw in the first, but until I found a little better. But still not a great film of suspense.
