Have you seen the trailer for this film? Congratulations, you've seen the whole movie in two minutes and saved yourself another 137! The trailer leaves one thing up in the air: does the young upstart hot-head, sent in to rescue his steely, grizzled veteran mentor, succeed or fail in his final mission? I'll leave you to sort that out on your own. Kutcher and Costner do their damnedest, but this cliche-fest was doomed to sink from the moment it left port. It doesn't hold water. Somebody, stop me.

Thought it to be quite ok. Quite messy at times, quite overplayed by some, but fairly well directed and performed. Liked the story, although it felt like I'd already seen this a few times before.

Offers absolutely nothing new. Nothing. I guess it's entertaining, but it does manage to be predictable. No, wait, that's bad, too. All the usual cliched crap is here, in excess. I thought Annapolis was the champion at that, but wow... The Guardian easily beats it by using every damn cliche there could possibly be in such a movie. I'm pretty sure I saw Top Gun, An Officer and A Gentleman, G.I. Jane, and on and on.

A load of hate going towards this totally decent film, which even features some pretty good acting from Ashton (who I can't stand in That 70s Show). Lots of cliches drop it down a bit, and it's by no means something I'll watch again, but still it's not too shabby.

While the reason behind the creation of the film may involve a concerted effort to beef up harbor security and anti-terrorist sea craft searches by fostering interest in joining, this potential dirty little secret probably won't stand in the way of more casual viewers (i.e. ones that have no interest in joining the Guard no matter how exciting they deem to make it appear) enjoying the results.

The usual american "our boys in uniform are heroes!" bullshit. The story was done a million times before so is pretty predictable. In the end, it's not a pain to watch, and can pass time, Costner and Kutcher do an okay job, but it doesn't have much value in it. Oh, and 139 minutes?! what were they thinking?

A surprisingly good film, well-acted by both Kutcher and Costner. This one may surprise some people. Nothing to write home about, but nothing to turn your nose up to either.

teaches no tricks, but it actually does teach - the 'never let go' spirit, Also that only the topper gets to access and do work which really matter.

Interesting concept. Not bad, actually. However, I was a tad un-satisfied with the ending. The story line was a bit predictable/done-before, but it's still an interesting story and loads of respect for the real Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers!!!

Uniquely boring and surprisingly inept. Blame the trite concept, insulting editing or zombie-like performances. Actually, blame all three.

Terrible cliche ridden bore-fest! The Guardian is so unoriginal and predictable, it amounts to nothing more than a waste of time. Costner and Kutcher are dull as dish water and the ending can been seen coming from pretty much the first five minutes. Avoid at all costs.

Has some redeeming elements, but most of the time it's a boring movie that's been sold on a misleading ad campaign; you'll probably expect something more akin to "Behind Enemy Lines". Instead, this is the longest training montage in history.

A usual and predictable movie that portray heroes. This just another old wine in a new bottle. The acting is at best par. There is not much in terms of story, script or cinematography. Watching the movie will not hurt one, but dont expect anything amazing from this movie.

If you watched Top Gun and thought the narrative was too episodic and the elite training school was too interesting, this is the movie for you. At least the opening is an OK Fugitive joke.

Standard master/student-movie with the somewhat interesting lifeguard angle. However, it is completely ruined within the final minutes.

This movie is good to watch if you want to understand the role of a coast guard rescue swimmer, the process they use to train, or Gung-Ho recruit soldiers. The overall story seemed almost to be tacked on otherwise. Several scenes were unconvincing, but there is a lot of tense high action moments, and one final hair raising scene. I particularly disliked the extremely cheesy final ending.

Good but long. Shallow but catchy. Good one liners and yet boring characters. Even though this movie is the best of times and the worst of times, it is still memorable to some degree. Worth the see, but maybe not worth the purchase.

Entertaining on the whole as a single film viewing experience but it does not hold up against competition of the same nature. Costner and Kutcher both deliver forgettable performances and the idea behind tragedy is to be taught something. This movie failed at teaching me anything.

Every single cliché in the book mashed together in a never-ending, poorly acted crap feast... The supernatural coda is particularly annoying: an extra FU to the poor audience who stick around to the very end.

Kutcher and Costner are surprisingly good in a film that has enough cool factor to outweigh the overly predictable plot.
