It's a fun murder mystery of sorts, though the kind where we never really know what's going on and so are left to just follow things along. It works pretty well for the most part, but then there's the ending which I don't really get at all.

A B film with some neat tricks up its sleeve. Toomey as the detective is the MVP, especially his overly detailed monologue describing the murder.

While it follows a narrators voice and got some film-noir elements, I wasn't drawn in by The Guilty (1947). Shot way too conventional. A style from a simpler time in Hollywood. Not surprising as director John Reinhardt had barely done any movies since the mid-1930s. He just wasn't up to the task of following post-WWII trends or finding any other way of elevating the story he had to work with. While not a total waste, it's still mediocre.
