TREMENDOUS performance by Jake Gyllenhaal. Just give the guy goddamn Oscar nomination

Having seen and loved the original, this suffers a bit. Gyllenhaal was wonderful, but then, so was Cedergren in the original. So really this doesn't have anything that the original doesn't have, and has diminishing returns. Script is great but not quite as polished as the original. With that said, still a fucking tense thriller. I forgot how absolutely devastating the big reveal near the end is, so it sucked living through that again. This was never boring.

The bloke version of The Call, on a budget and with a fraction of the excitement: something knocked up in desperation during lockdown to make a few quid. Gyllenhaal has the talents to carry a piece like this on his shoulders but overacts from minute one and his character’s backstory is dull, implausible, adds nothing, and seemingly exists just as an excuse to unnecessarily crowbar more contemporary issues into the script. Feels longer than 90 minutes, and not in a good way.

Super effective thriller! The pacing keeps everything intense, the story unfolds in amazingly dark ways, and Joe is a character that near perfectly walks the line of whether or not you lose sympathy toward him or stay on his side.

I just watched the 2018 original's trailer, and I wish I had watched that instead of this bloated netflix remake.

Not Jake's best but he's still good in this. I would have thought given his erratic behaviour he would have been yanked off the phones pretty soon after starting but then that's not the story right?

The original was one of the most gripping thrillers in recent memory. Fuqua's remake obviously couldn't keep me in the same suspense but I'm not sure it would have, even if I'd watched his version first. Either way, Gyllenhaal is trying too hard here.

You're damn right it is—GUILTY of casting Riley Keough and never showing her!

An inspired Gyllenhaal elevates this movie to a level higher than the original. He doesn’t need more than 5 minutes to draw a round character that feels like having a life beyond this movie and that’s a skill very few actors have. Such a great joy to watch him. The tension sags quite a bit in the final chapter and it compensates for it with cheapening, overly emo takes that are fleeting and a resistance to further explore themes of prejudice and guilt.

Saw this one floating around and decided to check it out, being an all-around fan of Jake Gyllenhaal. This one is pretty good. A tense mystery thriller that shows how remaining professional as much as possible at a 911 job is so utterly important and what may happen if you get too emotionally attached.

The Guilty can be gripping with Jake Gyllenhaal's terrific performance, but overall, it's a disappointing remake. If you haven't seen Gustav Möller's movie, you should definitely check it out first.

There was no reason to remake and Americanize the original. This is skip-able.
