This movie adaptation based on the Japanese manga "Bio Booster Armor Guyver" is a goofy mess. Looking like a knock-off "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze" (1991) the audience is treated to plenty of corny rubber monster suit fights. Pretty much terrible all around the movie does contain a few so-bad-its-good gems, but overall the film is just silly schlock. Might be worth watching just to see Mark Hamill transform into a mutant grasshopper or gremlin Jimmy Walker rapping.

Wasn't this an anime or something? Why did it need to be made into a feature-length film?

Wow, I had a lot of fun with this! It's way more goofy than I expected, even if the more body-horror parts aren't integrated well with that tone. The rubber-suit-monster-on-rubber-suit-superhero action was great, including some stuff I always wish they'd do. (The nerdy scientists turning into monsters with glasses and ties!) My main complaint, other than the tonal stuff, would be that the main bad guy's threats of sexual violence towards the girlfriend went to a thoroughly unnecessary place.

Aha, Brian Yuzna presents TMNT! I swear there are a million of these movies, but I can never find them when I need them. Dopey but entertaining rubber suit aliens beating each other up movie. This would be great on... cough syrup or something.

Pretty awful. Poor Hamill, he must have really needed the cash.

There's only three good things about this movie: (1) Mark Hamill turns into a giant cockroach (2) Jeffrey Combs and David Gale appear in it (3) Combs plays a character named "Dr. East"

Gets a high ranking because of the hilarity of the costumes

I wanted to see this mostly for the special effects, and while they are well made, they're mostly presented like comical Sentai villains. Most of that comedy fell flat for me, but I did have some occasional laughs, both with the movie and at it. David Gale is hammy enough to redeem it somewhat, but overall the whole thing feels like a tokusatsu TV show stretched out to feature length.

Some great body horror surrounded by deeply, deeply shameful humor.

A really lame adaptation of the manga/anime. Rapping zoinoids? Jeez...
