The Harvest

12ish yo girl: "Grandpa, Andy's mother won't let me see him because she's kidnapped a baby from hospital long ago and kept him alive in the basement all these years so she can harvest his heart and give it to Andy!" Wise old grandpa of girl who's just uncovered a major horrific crime: "When I was a kid, I had friends I wasn't allowed to hang out with. But that didn't stop me. Follow your heart." Yep.

If you've seen the preview, you've seen the movie--which is pretty bad, because the movie relies upon a big "twist" that isn't much of one, and that's really all there is. McNaughton gives it a great chilly, ominous Stephen King-y vibe, though, and Morton and Shannon are terrific.

A twisted family drama elevated by a couple of nice performances -- specially Samantha Morton, just freaking the hell out.

Suffers from a small scope and slow burn that doesn't climax to much of a bang. A lot of moments felt rushed with patchy directing. The secrets of the final act aren't at all surprising with many of the turns having been telegraphed early on. Hard to care about the protag when he's such a sniveling little wimp, Morton's staunch villain is much more compelling. Not bad, I just had high hopes for a film from the director of the astonishing Wild Things.

Apparently there's a big twist in this that I only discovered by reading reviews of people bored as I was. Jokes on you idiots, I didn't watch it to discover the twist. Suckersssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss................

So you wanna see Shannon and Morton work together, huh?
