I saw this on a plane and it was deadlier than snakes. I'd ask what happened to Eddie Murphy, but I never found his schtick very funny to begin with. Instead, I'll say this: between this and Elektra, does Terrence Stamp have to feed some sort of crack addiction he's not telling us about? After Pirates of the Caribbean was so wildly successful, I suppose this movie was inevitable, but if you've noticed there haven't been any "ride-inspired" films since... Well, here's why.

Ah yes you see how we took the Pirates of the Carribean ride and against all odds created one of the finest adventure films of the decade? Let’s take all that we learned and do the complete opposite. When all the skeletons started to rise up in the crypt I was so pissed that they were being wasted on PG Eddie Murphy fluff.

Halfway decent for a kids film, but not especially good on any count. The comedy is stale and the story lacks the grim charm that works so well for the ride that inspired this film. Works well if you need to keep the kids home Halloween night, but there are far better options available to you as a parent.

I didn't find The Haunted Mansion as offensive as most of the reviewers at this site but it still wasn't a great movie. I have never been on the ride that it is based off of but I can imagine how they brought parts of that alive in this movie. Murphy isn't at the top of his game but he plays the absent father well. Stamp is the best performance in this movie, followed by Tilly who is always great. I wish Thomason had a larger role. When she was on screen I always wanted more. The kids were bad.

Don't go into this expecting any scares or pretty much anything of substance and this will be a fun haunted house movie that is perfect for kids. It's short enough so it doesn't get annoying and it could be perfect for a background movie.

There is a dark subtext to the film that I only realised at the end. A 19th century wealthy land owner falls in love, but when they are to marry his butler murders his fiance. Forward to now and the ghost butler has found a lookalike and intends to con the ghost landowner into marrying her to lift a curse. Here's the thing though: His bride to be was a black woman, so that would mean she was probably a slave that he owned. It was a racially motivated murder!

While based on a ride the movie has a strong story line with some jump scares, funny moments, and heartfelt friendships forming. Not the best for younger children but a preteen or teen should have no problem watching the story unfold. I like how everything molded together and the easter eggs from the ride were fun.

Some neat effects and visual ideas, but the story is tired and Murphy is miscast, which is true of almost every film he starred in after The Nutty Professor II with perhaps the sole exception of Norbit. Based on a theme park ride, I guess it's asking too much for it to actually be good, but aside from the set design it struggles to sustain interest.

Passable family/kiddie fare has its moments when you think it's going to catch fire (especially whenever a gleefully forbidding Stamp is on-screen), but everything is so ultra sanitised and "safe" that it ultimately emerges as a bland and sterile experience; the design is at least impressively ornate and given the material, the cast gamely rise to the occasion and are a likable bunch, though one could argue this is at least a criminal waste of Shawn, and even Tilly.

It's a fun ride for the whole family for sure. Film-wise, I can't say much. The performances are all just fine, but it's a fairly average movie. I would rather watch Pirates of the Caribbean.

Since it was for the kids, ill give it a (reasonably) decent score. If i rated it seriously i would have given it my predicted score, which is a 36, but being in the genre it is, (kids movies) its not bad. If you have some toddlers around, its a definite recommendation. But if you are over the age of 14, be warned.
