The real failure here is that this was almost a good movie, with the morbid atmosphere of a teen facing his mortality and the familial tension that comes with risking everything on experimental treatment. But the filmmakers set their sights much lower and cram in as many pop up charred corpses as they can fit into a mirror shot. The scares are especially silly since so many of them, in fact the majority come from dream sequences and psychic flashbacks that are too confusing to be scary.

You know, I didn't care about very much in this movie. Mildly entertaining and that's about it. It was a bit interesting when they played with imagery but even so, how many times did we have to see that the cancer kid was JUST LIKE THE KID WHO TRIED TO STOP THE PEOPLE BEFORE. Mind blowing. Anyway, I liked the credits (the only genuinely creepy part) but it was too short to really knock this up. Too many bullshit jump scares and not enough atmosphere or anything else.

Ha. The haunted house they're referring to is in the town I grew up in. It's a Hollywood movie so you expect them to embellish, but nothing remotely close to this ever happened. That's probably why I can't give this any credit.

For a film of this kind, it was better than I thought it would be. This meaning that it was barely watchable. A decent performance by Virginia Madsen and half the scares were decent. However, the script is so bogged down with unnecissity. You knew that from her first shot that the sole purpose of having a hot teenage girl would either be an underwear or shower scene. And the entire alcoholic father theme had absolutely no bearing on the story whatsoever. She might as well been a single mother.

A great haunted house movie....if you're 14 and have never seen one before. The scares ALL rely on fright chords... The family doesn't behave logically at all, going soundly back to sleep after seeing corpses walk around... Halfway in, a teenager learns the entire history of the house (that's plot of the film) through library research and gives a lecture about it so thorough you have to see it to believe it... The parts that I hadn't seen in a ghost movie before were very predictable.

Little more than the typical haunted house-ghost story, despite being supposedly based on actual events (wasn't the same said about "The Blair Witch Project?"). More creepy than scary, pic is completely unoriginal and its scare tactics rely heavily on standard horror cliches as well as computer-generated special effects. A waste of Madsen's talent, as she sleepwalks through the overwrought script.

Horribly boring, not scary and simply uninteresting. I don't even understand how this movie got funding. Nothing in this movie even came close to giving me a scare, in fact most of the "scary" parts were flashbacks to the 1800's of mundane things--like preying before dinner, wake me up when it's over.

I actually didn't mind this flick all that much, it's average, and the rating is saved a bit by a really cool (albeit brief) ending credits sequence, with some photos that may lead you to question whether they're real scene photos or props. And it had kind of a decent twist towards the end. But yo, if you're not a fan of jump-scares, you can pretty much skip this flick entirely, as that's 80% of the flick. And they're often really cheap jump scares, with very little thought involved. Passable.

It's sadly not very good, for one of the Warren's Case Files (though not including The Warrens obviously). While you can see where maybe this would have been interesting, its bogged down by some horrid acting, bad writing, and some tv level visuals. Not that scary, but it retains some entertainment value.

I don't think this movie will haunt my dreams, but it may make me think twice about renting a house in Connecticut. I know a lot of people didn't like the family drama in this film, but I thought it was interesting to see two things happening to one family, cancer and necromancy. I thought that the ghosts were really creepy and I happen to love jump-scares and this movie had a lot of them...

The premise seemed promising, but the interpretation of the events felt cheap. One never feels connected to any of the characters, and the backstory is barely touched on. In the end, one wonders what just happened and can't help but feeling disappointed that something that had so much potential fizzled away so unceremoniously.

This wants to be Shining so bad but ends up as a lame made for TV looking rip off. The alcoholic father is an annoying horror cliche we've seen too often. Hollywood still haven't figured out that replacing suspense and psychological terror with CGI jump scares just doesn't work. Note to producers: If your horror film is going to suck at least get the young hot woman naked as much as possible.

A basic easy ghost story with sudden shock and scare moments you're waiting for. Lack of inner logic: first they said only close-to-death people can see them, but in the end the entire family was involved. No special athmosphere, special effects or pace of the story. Extra points for the idea of "viy", eyelids.

The other film I walked out of the cinema on, except I had the misfortune of sitting this through to the end. According to Peter Cornwell and co. if you exorcise a house of ghoulies, God will repay you by curing your son of cancer! And this is a true story is it? Fuck all of you involved in this piece of fucking shit. I hope God gives you cancer.

Does somebody actually need to die to make a horror movie work? Well this movie doesn't prove otherwise. Couldn't help but feel completely indifferent about the whole experience at the end. I like how they included the audio clues so we know when we are meant to be scared.

No laziness here. Every1 seems 2 be trying 2 carve something interesting out of the limited materials provided by the haunted house genre: Some decent performances, some creepy images& the script mostly makes sense, providing ample reasons y the family sticks around (except after a scene involving death by shower curtain - ok, maybe it is a little lazy) & even throws in a nice metaphor about stars that dont know they're dead yet, BUT it all feels 2 familiar, sluggish, & worse, never scary.

Well I sure am glad they invented the string glissando, else Mr. Cornwell would have had a really hard time to convey that something scary is happening... (Another attempt to gain an appreciation of horror movies through watching films recommended by friends, and another glorious failure. I think I'm done.)
