The Haunting of Helena

Boo what does Italy know about horror.

A lot better than expected and sets itself a part from the typical ghost stuff lately as this broad-stroke "evil toothfairy flick" with interjected ghost story justifications and plot advancement. It nicely defied the cheesy "toothfairy actually a scary monster IRL" creature features thing while being able to utilizy the general creepy premises for its own story outside the more derivative directions of each concept alone.

This movie isn't really that scary and for the most part doesn't rely on jump scares. It works more as a supernatural psychological thriller, it all about tension which increases as the movie goes along. Most of the acting ranges from average to good with the weakest being the daughter. The ending has a twist as almost all horror films seem to have now but this one while a little hokie was better then a lot of others.

EXCELLENT story, let down by dreary lighting with little punch or panache. A shame.

Big effort to just arive at one hour of film.
