I think what Asia Argento was trying to do with the movie was make it extremely uncomfortable to watch and disturbing, but the thoughts are much too scattered here to succeed and it just keeps dragging on and on. I get what she was trying to do, but it just ended up boring.

The relentless litany of atrocities defies plausibility and, therefore sympathy. And, yep, turns up it was all made up all along.

Terrible story of a poor boy who experiences all sins you can imagine. The story lacks with good ending; actually it's pretty boring. But clearly Asia is learing to make movies.

Visually interesting, but full of one-dimensional characters. Story goes nowhere.

Asia Argento strangely looks like Courtney Love in this film.

Against all odds this is a disturbing and good Movie by Asia Argento. Not perfect in many points but I think a good start for her to make it better in common productions. Manson is quiet cool and creepy

"Ultimately it's an awkwardly executed and narrow-minded film."

"Argento doesn't translate Leroy's novel into the visual language of film, or at least she doesn't conjure up the same feeling the book does." - Jeremiah Kipp

i think you get more out of it if you've read the book, however they left out some really important details, so i dunno...

Seems like it needed to be either 15-20 mins shorter or 15-20 mins longer

Damn... What a grim and brutal ride. Weirdly honest and heartfelt though which adds to the creepy sense of tragedy and pain. Asia Argento is a competent director especially with visuals. She's perhaps not the greatest storyteller but there's a sense she's developing on her own terms and not taking any shit from no one or compromising her vision in any way. Her performance is absolutely feral with raw power. Anyway you might need a drink afterwards.
