Managed to take arguably the most tired premise in the history of movies and make it work by switching in what would normally have been men with women and injecting some very funny moments. McCarthy is hilarious, Bullock has her moments, and sprinkled throughout are people like Bill Burr and Nathan Corddry who add their own moments of hilarity. The only funny person who didn't get to be funny was Taran Killam. The combo Feig and McCarthy could end up being the next great director-actor team up.

There's a surprising amount of absurd humour to be found in what I was expecting would be a fairly run-of-the-mill comedy. The action/crime angle of the story is totally stock, but I suppose that's the point, as the movie plays with cliche and expectation for the basis of its comedy. Full points to Katie Dippold's hilarious script, and a director in Feig who knows how to make the most out of his leading ladies. Bullock and McCarthy can both be one-note and unlikeable, but here? They're radiant.

Perhaps the wheeziest, most hardworking, most eager-to-entertain movie of the summer. It's just too bad it's not funnier, or more interesting story-wise, or just overall...better. Man, it tries, but most of the jokes are over-obvious or telegraphed, and the cop movie plot is just bland. McCarthy's the whole show, as usual.

The complaints about this movie seem silly considering it is supposed to be a comedy. While it isn't redefining any buddy cop movie, it does a fine job setting up several laughs.

As a comedy, it's not terrible, with likable enough chemistry between the two leads. As an action/cop flick, it's a big swing and a miss, with an uninteresting case, a bland nonentity villain, and teeny tiny action scenes almost all set in small rooms. Don't expect any buddy cop action like Lethal Weapon or Beverly Hills Cop or even last year's 21 Jump Street. I like Paul Feig's work in Bridesmaids and love love love Freaks and Geeks, but this film makes it clear: An action director he is not.

This is Bullock's comeback, she finds her true calling as the uptight, annoying, miss-knows-it-all FBI agent. Her foil is the feisty Boston cop, McCarthy, who pretty much does what she always does best, cuss and kick ass thru out the film. Their chemistry works just fine and I bet they are already working on the sequel. Trivia: In the film Bullock's character says she has been in the FBI for 12 years, Bullock first played an agent in 2000 with Miss Congeniality.

Its already enjoyable when veteran actress with great comedic timing like Bullock being pair with up and comer hilarious no-holds barrel comedian like McCarthy. The plot is pretty decent despite being a simple buddy cop formula, which the ending was fairly obvious. it was during the chasing, which turned up being silly, yet outrageously funny. without much expectation,"The Heat" is surprisingly fun,so it wasn't much of a disappointment after all.

The Heat didn't make me laugh. It doesn't have much action, and what it does have is nothing special. It ignores most plot conventions in favor of ad-libbing dialogue between its two stars. Its plot is basically thrown out the window as soon as Melissa McCarthy's character is introduced. Is it worth seeing? Not for my money, but if you liked Bridesmaids, you'll likely find this funny, too. The stars work hard to make a smart concept watchable. I just wish they were in a better, funnier movie.

Its one of those movies that has absolutely no right to be as good as it is. The plot for the most part is your standard predictable buddy cop movie. However much like The To Do List it switches the gender of the leads in a typically male driven genre. This gives it a much fresher spin then it otherwise would have. While there is no one scene that really sticks out, the dialogue for the most part is witty, and Bullock/McCarthy have perfect chemistry.

The most enjoyable buddy cop movie in a while. It doesn't break new ground, but McCarthy brings in the laughs, and Bullock is very likable. Some other comedy faces round out the cast and add up to an entertaining viewing experience.

I didn't laugh at this movie a single goddamn time, and it does nothing but support police brutality and bigotry interspersed with Sandlerian insincere schmaltz. If this came out even a year later, oh boy would it have taken the beating it deserved. Get it? Like how the police beat up black people.

Sandra Bullock is surprisingly weak with comedy and the film mostly falls apart as a result. All that's left is a bog-standard buddy cop movie no different from the thousands of other buddy cop movies that have been made before.

I realize that comedy is in some respects about being impolite, about making people feel uncomfortable. But when I consider some of the comedic greats from ages past--from Charlie Chaplain to Lucille Ball, from Bill Cosby to Bugs Bunny to Bill Murray--they were often very funny without relying upon profanity to deliver the punch line. You could uncover a clip or movie or even a whole career from among them that you could show to almost anyone and say, "Now that's how it's done. That's funny."

Yep, we are forced to get Sandra doing those tricks with her hair and just being boring (and pretty) in most of her scenes, but Feig's reverse chick flick, so nicely executed in Bridesmaids, returns as a wonderfully physical and unstoppable buddy cop film. In times the girls simply rule the world, it's good to watch such a confident film about girls who don't need men to tell what them what to do once in a while.

This was a huge surprise, as it seems like it should just be a rehash of the buddy cop genre. Yet it's flashed out with a kind of realness that floods out of the caricature archetypes. It's mostly the sterling acting by Bullock and McCarthy that really gives new life to a tired old genre. Most admirably is that some of the gags are really pushed past the tacit limits you feel exist in this genre.

I kind of despise the gimmick of this film - a buddy cop movie, but with chicks! Still, it wasn't bad. The trailer was funnier than the entire film though. And it was a good 30 minutes too long. Melissa McCarthy was pretty funny and she had good chemistry with Sandra Bullock. I also enjoyed the smaller roles from other great comedy actors like Tony Hale and Kaitlin Olson. Not great, not terrible, just watchable.

Nothing special, but it was not terrible. It has it's moments, but the cast can only elevate the script so far. The thing I enjoyed about it, was picking up on all of the actors in the secondary roles; Wayans, Burr, Rapaport, Hale, Michael MacDonald, Biff Tannen and ''Jared' from Silicon Valley. So there was really no shortage of talent in this.

Offering nothing more than its gimmick (female buddy-cops) Feig fills the screen with gags in a vain attempt 2 distract us from a boilerplate narrative that felt tired in 1991. Attempts at rah-rah feminist subtext feel only slighltly less out of place than they would in Lethal Weapon 3. McCarthy's relentlessly unforgiving one-note obnoxiousness will please teens, but wear down any1 over 30 & Bullock, w/ her girl-next-door face occasionally makes u feel like ur watching another Miss Congeniality

Basically started watching it due to my longing for Boston; but ended up kinda enjoying it. I am not a fan of Bullock, but she pulled off her character very well in this one; being goofy and uptight at the same time is a good source of comedy. McCarthy also excelled in Charlestown gal character. Even though structurally it is a weak movie, the tracheostoma opening scene by itself is worth 10 points by itself.

Fun vehicle for Bullock and McCarthy finds both of them in terrific form, and sharing a surprisingly potent comedic chemistry – potent enough to charge through some plotting lulls and comic sequences that, while amusing, stall the pacing from time to time (eg. the extended midpoint bar-room sequence). With maybe half an hour of tightening, this might have been a superior “odd couple” entry, but it’s still enjoyable thanks to the leads and supporting cast more generally.

It's funny, what more can you ask for? The plot is nothing special, not bad but very boilerplate, but the jokes are well written and the two leads have great delivery and chemistry. One gets the feeling Bullock and McCarthy could do a whole bunch of movies together in different genres. Their on-screen chemistry (if you're allowed to use that word in non-sexual situations) is superb, and the actresses work together as if they've done so for fifty years. They are such a likable duo that one is willing to (mostly) overlook stupid plot elements.

I enjoyed it but didn't love it. I definitely see the criticism that it tries too hard, but that doesn't mean it's not funny sometimes. I think it'd be better if they didn't make Melissa McCarthy swear every second word. I get it, she isn't filthy on TV but in movies she is. Sometimes it works well, and there are some great laughs here. I don't care that it's by the books in every other way, because the blueprint works. I just wish it was more consistently funny, that's all. Still, surprising.

It had everything it needed to be a seriously funny movie but that unfortunately never really happened. It felt more like a first draft script or a MadTV or In Living Color skit that went on for too long. It was all over the place and didn't seem to know what it wanted to be at anyone point. In fact the whole movie was a mess from the acting to the script it just seemed like everyone was winging it. Not bad but could've been soooo much better, it's a shame

The Heat offers absolutely nothing new to the buddy cop formulae, but it enjoyably pays homage to it. Paul Feig's previous comedy 'Bridesmaids' was a huge surprise so I had reasonably high expectations for this film. I've always had a soft spot for Sandra Bullock and she's as likeable as ever here. Melissa McCarthy is comical also but the novelty of her typecast character is beginning to ware thin. But there's certainly enough laughs to be had and buddy cop references that raise a smile.

Perhaps I've just seen way too many mediocre cop-buddy-comedies over the past decade, but I really enjoyed this one. It follows the same old format but having two females does open up a whole new world of gags, and the fact they manage to do this without constantly ramming the gender issue down the audience's throat should be commended. McCarthy's psychotically insulting Mullins provides the most laughs, with Bullock an able foil. A rare instance where I'm actually looking forward to the sequel.
