The High Note

Cheesy and breezy entertainment. Dakota Johnson cruises effortlessly through the whole thing.

Nothing but your feel-good wibe and I liked Johnson in this role. *Recommendable.

It's so cliche ridden and yet low stakes, it's the good kind of crap movie.

As mediocre as they come.

Pretty fun light movie. The original music wasn't great, and you could see the twist coming a mile away. But it still delivered something worthwhile if you want something mindless and entertaining to watch.

hey I'm just as surprised as you are

So many formulas mashed up into one movie that it almost feels like satire at times. Bad but oddly charming.

The know-it-all lead of this movie ruins it with her self-centered, underhanded actions. How do I root for someone who consistently goes behind people's backs when she is not invariably insulting them to their face? Nothing new is brought to the assistant-made-queen storyline except some interracialness. A true low note for Ellis Ross but about par for the course for a Dakota Johnson vehicle.

Johnson was good as she seems to usually be. Aside from that it was whatever. The music didn't really pull me in and there's a part later on that just feels so forced/shoehorned in that it put me off some. It felt a lot longer than it was because it didn't bring anything to the table. I blame the writing mostly because everyone else was fine. Significant step down from Late Night, which had a lot more energy and did everything this tried to do but better.
