As romantic comedies go, it's not awful, though Kate Winslet's character is the only interesting one. (It's implied she ends up with Jack Black. Hooray for Hollywood.)

It's a romantic comedy, with a likeable cast. Harmless and easy to watch, if a little uninspiring.

It's a reasonable take on the whole rom-com thing, a little schmaltzy in places, but to be honest tha's only playing to it's target audience. I thought it was OK.

One of my favorite dramedies with a romantic flavor, largely due to the half of the story involving Kate Winslet's character and the new friends she meets in LA. Diaz' less-than-charming character's half is helped by Jude Law and the sweet British countryside.

Not bad, but somehow seems a empty beneath all the romance and the occasional snigger. That and the fact that the whole film is utterly predictable.

An empty romantic comedy. Nothing to write home about.

I'm not much on the ol' chick flicks, but I was pretty happy with this as far as romantic comedies go. Jack Black was probably about as good as he is capable of being. Where the flick falls to Earth is in its blatant predictability and the mindless evolution of the two romances. Jude Law is sexy, yes, but anybody could call that, and... I dunno, there was nothing all that special about it. When I rely on Jack Black to "save" a romantic comedy, something is wrong.

Were it not for Kate Winslet, this movie would have been straight torture. Instead only the Cameron Diaz segments, which seem to heavily outweigh Winslet's, are excruciating. It's one of the laziest romantic comedies I've ever seen, as if just telling us these couples are falling in love is enough to make it watchable. It's not.

For a movie with a subplot about an Oscar winning writer, this movie sure does have some of the most unnatural dialogue possible. Everything out of Cameron Diaz's mouth sounds like she's just struggling to read it off a cue card, which is very unlike her. Jack Black is somehow directed into being completely bland & vanilla. The best part is Kate Winslet who still manages to be very charming and likeable despite the script. On the whole, though, the movie just rings false.

How did this director manage to pull such crappy performances out of otherwise talented actors? Or maybe the person who wrote this middle-school quality script is to blame? Oh, wait - they're the same person.

100 for the parts with Kate Winslet! I had to mark this down a tad because I felt Diaz was lacking in her role. I felt there could have been more to her character than she brought. That said, I LOVE this movie! It's one that's great to watch again and again. It's a great romantic-comedy, and it doesn't feel like a re-telling of a story we've already seen many times. Cute characters, mostly well acted, and interesting story-lines for various characters. Love it!

For the Holidays, Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet decide to home swamp to get away from their lives; but instead they find themselves and ultimately find true love. The Holiday has all the charm of It's a Wonderful Life with all the zest of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. This is in my top 5 favorite films, and I'm a guy! Other top 5's are The Matrix and Rambo: First Blood Part II!

Yes - Winslet and Black. No - Diaz and Law. Cameron needs to stop making films. Nancy Meyer's last is perhaps her least best.

All the leads in the film (bar Winslet) are awful, and the writing is just mind-bogglingly stupid. Badly made, poorly acted and a general predictable cliche-fest of shit. Not worth your time and effort. Avoid this like the fat kid in a Greenday shirt at a party.

Two stories stuck together. Both bland and predictable. Kate Winslet does actually make her character believable - Cameron Diaz must be playing for laughs and it doesn't work.

Diaz is the clear weak link of the cast and her romantic arc is the lesser of the two too, as none of the interesting possible complications (kids, long distance, surprising mutual acquaintance) are leaned into in the slightest and it has a cringe-worthy climax (see the marathon run back). Iris' story is more engaging (the romance is spiced with more honest character growth) but has a similar cheesy sheen. All told, it's earnest and sweet but insubstantial in its story and mediocre in its craft.
