My house tends to give out those sighs that escape old men as they're sitting down into a comfy chair. Before making Who Can Kill a Child? (which is an unsung masterpiece in my book), Serrador made this effective and subversive thriller. This features one of the greatest freeze frames in horror history, and if you know what I'm talking about you have an open invitation to message me because we should discuss it.

Surprisingly good suspense/drama. The poster tells you it's a cheap B movie with teen slashing but it's a well developed psychological thriller movie. Very well use of limited location and lifelike characters! Latest US Blu-ray has extended cut but I think there are even more missing scenes. A hidden gem for sure!

The movie has a great Gothic movie atmosphere and is full of vicious girls who would fit into a women's prison film. Even though the mystery isn't hard to figure out the film still manages to be very suspenseful.

Inspiration for Argento's Suspiria. Almost unknown but so much better.

1st watch for longer cut (2nd time altogether) and I'm even more impressed. It's really well directed and shot Gothic mystery that has possibly been an inspiration to Argento and Giallo/slasher genres. Made in '69, it's tamer than it would have been a couple of years later, but Serrador focuses on building the suspense. It has a couple of effective twists and at least one of those should come as a surprise. Hopefully this version gets a proper HD restoration as SD inserts are a bit distracting.
