With a title like that you're not really looking for depth beyond sorority girls anyway. It's enjoyable enough as a well-filmed slasher. The final girl was played well. The story lost momentum halfway through but the set up was really good. Obligatory "fuck clowns." Fav scene: nice false sense of security by the initial prank and then switching it to real stakes.

This one surprised me. I found myself giving a shit about the story, something I can't say for 90% of slashers. It also contained a handful of interesting characters, another slasher rarity. The kills were on the bland side, but the direction was solid. The last scene in particular was well done, even tense. Though the blue balls ending was kind of disappointing. I guess the filmmakers were hoping for a sequel that never happened.

Not among the very worst or best of the 80ies slashers, it's... I won't say "saved", but redeemed somewhat by fast pace, a few enjoyably lame deaths and tits (Edit, to clarify: The tits aren't "enjoyably lame", they just sit there for our viewing pleasure... as God intended). As i said, not the worst of it's kind, but there's no reason to watch this unless you're on a three day slasher binge and have already watched the good stuff.

At the height of the slasher era, The House on Sorority Row succeeds in being a bright spot. The technical achievement and gore effects are already a notch above many others, but the story is unique enough to keep the viewer interested between deaths. Obviously the setting and presence of an attic makes for an easy comparison to Black Christmas, but this film shouldn't be held up to that masterpiece because of this.

The biggest problem with horror movies is also the secret draw for a lot of them: You could do this better. This movie has the setup needed for this type of shenanigans but it's pretty simple to think of ways to improve on the execution. Even still, there are moments that create suspense, like a hanging light bulb behind someone suddenly starting to sway.

Boring and uninspired slasher that reminded me of Black Christmas, with the setting of sorority house with the attic. There are boobs and some gore (murders are repetitive pick-axe type of action), but also some really bad acting and boring plot.

A few fun moments and some nice 80's T&A.

Featuring passable to solid performances from a well-rounded cast, it packs plenty of the standard 80's slasher fare & is really nothing new or special. That said, despite the iffy & quite goofy plot, for the most part it's paced well & has its share of surprisingly brutal kills. The ending is meh & the characters aren't all that interesting, but there's never really a dull moment. All in all, it's worth a watch, but don't expect a classic.

Solid slasher which is not quite top tier, but definitely worth a watch. It’s competently directed, visually quite nice and features a rather traditional score. The cast is OK, but the script could have added some depth to the characters. The film is not that gory, but it doesn't really matter that much and the emphasis on mystery feels fresh after paint by numbers Friday 13th clones. It seems to have been an inspiration for at least Scream 2 and I Know What you Did Last Summer.

Anaemic slasher doesn’t even have the benefit of a slumming A-lister in its cast to add any perverse pleasure – goes through the FRIDAY/HALLOWEEN motions without much tension or excitement to be found. Notable that on a purely technical level, Rosman appears to have put some original thought into his shot constructions and staging, which means the film is at least interesting to look at; the cast all blend in together, managing to not be too obnoxious but not making a great impact either.

This is a very solid old slasher film with all the stuff that you could ask for. It's got the kills, the thrills, the boobs, the screaming, the mystery and while the deaths themselves are not exceptionally gory, I think the tension makes up for it. Also, I always knew it was clowns. Goddamn clowns. I'm on to you.

Another lame 80s by-the-numbers slasher movie. Ever notice that this kind of crap never takes place at fraternities?

Not the worst of the 80s slashers I’ve seen - some halfway decent colors and shot composition and Eileen Davidson amuses as the bitchy with a sadistic streak sorority mean girl, like she’s from Jawbreaker or something. Overall though it mostly goes through masked killer, jump scares & final girl cliche, with characters mostly too stupid too live and an eye roller of a “final scare.”

It's a familiar plot but it's so well put-together and so well acted that, at times, it feels like an arthouse flick. Grindhouse afficiandos will probably be disappointed, as this movie lacks a certain twisted creativity common to the genre. But it more than makes up for it with a tight script that boasts a richer array of characters than the rest of the pack.

Stupid and not scary. The second 80's slasher I've watched in as many days. This shit fest should remain in the attic. Godawful

Is a bit of a Hitchcock/De Palma fanboy at times. Which is a good thing. The rest is...not. Rather uninteresting, to be exact. Except for Eileen Davidson's performance, maybe, which was pretty good.
