Possibly the grimmest, most downbeat mainstream blockbuster in recent memory (save for a brief, cathartic glimmer of hope in the final moments). Makes a bold statement about the unforgiving nature of war. Jennifer Lawrence's four-film arc as Katniss is a performance for the ages.

Given particular current events, this is a timely film about how politicians/ world leaders use children & refugees to win cheap points. This series has always combined the anxiety of dystopian sci-fi, with keen social commentary & the final chapter is no exception. The action (esp. the I Am Legend zombies), pacing & Jennifer Lawrence are all great. I wish the movie had concluded one scene earlier, but that is a minor complaint. A great ending to one of the better franchises of recent memory.

Pretty sure you guys are wrong on your reaction to this. I don't say that often. Solid way to cap the series. Imperfect, sure, and not my personal favorite, but at least on par with the last one. Pretty Hollywood ending and I guess this one diverges more from the book than the others. But the series accomplished what I wanted it to, bringing to life a dark and gritty world, that continually discussed propaganda in an interesting way and made great use of colour (and lack thereof) to convey tone.

Nobody's ever hungry in these movies. It's like when that band that speaks to you hits it big and their next album is all about rich people problems. I don't really care for someone using a bow and arrow in close quarters when the rest of the group has machine guns. I think a sword or a trident or a tuba makes a better weapon in close quarters. It's nice to know the most inconsequential character (Banks) isn't really in the book much. "Fan favorite" - said no one.

An adequate ending to the Hunger Games series, although despite promising the most action, it offered the least excitement. Donald Sutherland's monologue may have been the most powerful moment, and most interesting source of commentary. Hoffman's monologue (which remains in the script thanks to Woody Harrelson) would have made a great complement.

Good movie, but altogether the 2-parter isn't as good as the first two installments. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 is a very grim and emotional ride for fans of the series. It may feel melodramatic for some, but the story was still good. Probably better if you watch the two movies back to back. Also felt like it dragged on a bit, but overall, the directing and acting is still good and the ending is probably as satisfying as it could be. Personally loved the ending.

Anybody who hates this movie can come get some (please don't, I'm a wimp). In all seriousness, this is incredibly grim and satisfying. It has great performances but Lawrence especially is amazing. It's a little predictable but that doesn't mean it's not still engaging... it's expertly written and acted so it's easy to get lost in it. The ending is balls (it should have ended with "Your love for me... real or fake? "Real." But they decided to extend it. Lame. Anyway, awesome.

This was a disappointment I knew I was going to suffer. Part 1 was a triumph in adding depth to weak source material, but Part 2 contained the most troublesome parts of the final novel in the series, and boy do those parts bring this down. For every great scene, things like the unbearable tension of the underground, or Donald Sutherland's brilliant final turn as Snow, there's another scene of insufferable love triangle drama or a forced cameo from a beloved character relegated to the sidelines.

1) It feels like they thought of the climax scene first and built the rest of the movie to generate that finale. 2) There are maybe three actual conversations; all other dialogue consists of monologues unnaturally delivered. 3) The series continues it's absurd combo of handheld, personal, grimy scenes and Star Wars Episode One-esq big giant CGI moments. 4) Let's disguise ourselves by wearing a hoodie lol. 5) Should've ended with the bed scene and cut the cat and baby scenes

This time round Katniss has a clearly stated mission, which holds the whole film together better than the previous instalment, but it still lacks the intense genre focus that was provided by the arena games in the first two. The result is a thoughtful, but very rambling and talky, sci-fi satire on war. I thought I'd be sick of Lawrence by now, but she still has the goods and leads an effective movie that is at its best when it reminds us of what we really liked about the previous ones.

Like the Matrix trilogy, this 3rd chapter has the leads spending all their time in a real war & away from all the cool contrived "worlds" of the first 2 (although this one is smart enough to include some booby traps from the Games' "world"). The real world can't help but feel dull in comparison & the drawn-out pacing here isn't helping either. Still, the story is impressive for pulling off such a subversion of the action genre. Not many blockbusters continually suggest we're the bad guys

First of all, I do admit that the last scene was pretty cheesy. But other than that I enjoyed every minute of it since it kept me on the edge of my seat during the whole movie. I was pretty shocked, nay, devastated about Prim's death (I didn't read the books, shame on me!), though. How ironic is that?! But all in all I loved the movie as part of a whole epic film series about a girl that starts off as a brave sister and ends up as the leader of a crucial revolution for humanity.

What the hell was that tiger woman doing in the movie?! I don't think any franchise have an overabundance of characters on the same level. Jena Malone, Elizabeth Banks, and so many others. Maybe that's why it took them 4,5 hours of film to adapt the third novel. At least the final 1,5 hour is decent entertainment (of course not counting the shameless last scene).

The worst of the Hunger Games movies and an incredible disappointment, Mockingjay - Part 2 ends the franchise on a whimper, not a bang. It struggles to add much value at all to the series, existing as an obligation and little more. It doesn't have much action, it robs itself of most of its potential to give audiences emotionally resonating scenes, it stretches an already thin plot thinner, and it has the single most bafflingly stupid final scene in a movie all year.

All the people who say this is grim need to watch Seven, Requiem for a Dream or something actually substantial. But since this is made for twelve year olds I get how they can't watch anything rated R. Katniss continues to be the world's most boring protag, there's a love triangle for God knows why, and literally every action that happens in this movie is arbitrary. Why were the vampires from I Am Legend there? Why not! This movie's so bad it killed Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Oh my god, how boring is this franchise? I might be in the minority, but I have watched all the films now and I still don't "get it". I'm actually at a very surprising conclusion; I find myself looking back fondly on the Twilight series in comparison, because at least with that I was never this comatose. The first two Hunger Games were OK, these last two have been such a chore.

After promising an intense climax and a non stop thrill ride the final chapter of the Hunger Games fails to reach a level of intensity that Part one did. It just felt chaotic, going from scene to scene forgetting to give us closure for some many things and attempting to add twist after twist that just made things even harder to buy into. Where Part one left us wanting an emotional conclusion, Part two deciced to skip that all together and give us a conclusion with fire and explosions.

***SPOILER***SPOILER***SPOILER Best action of the series. It would have been a really awesome movie if they didn't make 2 movies out of the last book. BUT that very ending made me laugh so hard. They created a badass female character and turned her into a domesticated mother of 2 children from Peeta :D Movie should have ended right after Peeta asks "you love me, real/not real ? Why wasn't Philip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch written out of the film? A CGI ghost of Hoffman lurks throughout the film and makes every other scene feel uncomfortable. The last scene of the movie, which almost ruins an otherwise decent film, was reminiscent of the terrible voice over ending of that one version of Blade Runner (you know the one).

What bugs me is that there is stuff in "Mockingjay" that could set up a truly subversive action movie, and it settles for paying lip service to that. Also, that that movie would be about 2 hours, not 4 as it's stretched to here. The result is that what should be the movie that blows the whole story down ends up being a depressing drudgery with some fine scenes in there somewhere and one of the cheesiest, most unearned shampoo-commercial endings ever.

It's fine, sometimes quite good even. Dragged on a bit towards the end and I definitely rolled my eyes at some cheesy moments. It also spent way too much time delivering or setting up false jump scares. It was quite bizarre once I noticed it happening repeatedly.

90% of the movie lived up to the Hunger Games universe and the development of Katniss' character, but the ending of the movie with all the finishing, full of information and "rounding-up" scenes just put a little bit of a downer on it.

Disappointing ending. I probably should have expected a lackluster ending, but oh well. All of the action (while some of it was good) was frustrating because it had literally no actual impact on the story. The post-action scenes felt rushed, even though they needed to pay off 4 movies' worth of political and romantic story. And it's sad, because the way it ended seemed like it was creative and deserved a better cinematic telling.

There's a definite genre change here - it's much more of a sci-fi horror than the previous entries. Many moments are quite powerful, but it's a tremendously grim movie and I didn't exactly have a good time watching it. I kind of liked the saccharine sweet ending & sometimes predictable story. But,the CGI sewer demons just pissed me off. Why did they add such utter nonsense? The movie would have been so much better without going to the "dark side" of computer generated garbage that nearly ruined & undermined all that had come before. Shame on the idiot who suggested it & shame on the even bigger idiots that allowed & produced it. Boo! Sometimes less really is more! Otherwise music & performances were good.

Finishes out Part 1... but nothing really exciting to the story at this point. The setting is very drab and gray, the action is alright but nothing to write home about. And as a whole neither the amount of sci fi lore or the scale of the conflict is interesting enough to make a memorable movie.

It brings a logical end to the 3 part series and I recommend it if you have already done the first three. The plot is a wee bit better than the previous instalment mostly due to the focus on a limited set of characters. Lawrence stands out though. You can easily that she has "grown" in reel as well as real life :)

There's some good stuff to be found, mostly Philip Seymour Hoffman (RIP), Elizabeth Banks and Donald Sutherland, and some of the Capitol action is interesting. But it's ultimately as mediocre as the rest of the series. The biggest disappointment is that they had a perfect ending, with Katniss and Peeta peacefully falling asleep together after finally confirming their love for each other, and then they fucked it all up with an awful epilogue whose final 'moral' doesn't even connect with the film.

Mockingjay Part 2 is book-ended by slow-paced, over expositional drivel. There's no hook, and by this point I had stopped caring about most of the characters. Too much melodrama, empty action, and not enough scenes that genuinely engaging. However, the tone works for the film and it portrayal of loss in war is decent, though the plot wasn't handled as well as it could have been. At least the whole affair is over now.

Damn good ending to a pretty cool franchise/trilogy. I have to say, though, that the Katniss/Peeta romance always felt and never stopped feeling odd to me. I don't know if that's due to a lack of chemistry between Lawrence and Hutcherson or if Peeta is just too underdeveloped as a character.

An undeniably flabby and at times laborious end to what has been by-and-large a very good series. I've a real soft spot for the first two films, but the division of Mockingjay into two feels even more cynical and unnecessary here in Pt.2 than in the first instalment. That said there's lots to enjoy in the whole series' brash but unashamedly political themes, and the high quality of the acting. Lawrence (both director & actor) just about keep the finales head above water, and all credit to them.

This is an example that a trilogy is more then enough. By the 4th Hunger Games everyone is drained. We get off to a terribly slow start to the series conclusion. However once we get passed the zzz-zone the movie lifts itself up to the level of the other Hunger Games. Jennifer Lawrence carries herself well and for me Donald Sutherland was always a key factor. Not overly convincing, but fine enough blow-off to a blockbuster series that was always a mixed experience.

While the movie bashes you over the head with its message by sheer repetition, the twists in the third act and the performances by Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson make this one an improvement over Part 1. Still, had this and the last one been a single film, it might have been great.

Mockingjay: Part 2 is marginally better than it's predocessor but splitting the final instalment in half has proved to be completely unjustified. As a standalone film Mockingjay could have been an incredible finale, but this dreary Part 2 merely stumbles across the finish line. There's a handful more set pieces than in Part 1 and the performances remain serviceable. The Hunger Games has certainly been an enjoyable series of films, but overall I'm relieved that they have reached their conclusion.

That his final role was this incomplete performance, plus the thought of all the roles left unplayed that might yet have been taken, make clear the significance of the premature death of Hoffman as a reminder of the importance of the fundamental rule: never shoot up if you are alone and there is no one around who can ensure you are revived in the case of accidental overdose. Movie was downbeat liberation, but the series seems designed to gradually force the protagonist to accept domestic tedium.

A perfect continuation of the devastating commentary on war from Part 1: uneasy scenes of sinister battle plans and shady propaganda politics intertwine with suspenseful ones of terrifying, exhausting, fruitless warfare (see Katniss' response to her brief captor) to lead to a fitting anti-climax; there is no joy in victory, only lingering suspicion and pain and further violence simmering beneath the surface (slightly cheesy final scene aside). A satisfying conclusion to a dark dystopian tale.

That kind of serious structure makes these movies hard to watch, none more so than this grand finale. Many people wondered how the final half of Suzanne Collins' Mockingjay book could possibly snag a PG-13 rating given its kill quotient. And it is truly a harsh experience--one that could really upset and even scar some moviegoers, particularly younger ones. I can't stress that enough ... but even in the midst of such horror, this movie gives us hope. (pluggedin.com)

A frenzied, hyped-up, bug-eyed franchise finale if ever there was one. Too bad that--as with the third installment--the stretched-out story simply isn't as interesting here as it was in Parts One and Two. Some good action and character moments lie scattered about, but illogic abounds, and when the proceedings aren't confusing, they're over-obvious. It has a lot more going on than the previous movie, but I'm still a little sour that every young-adult-book movie now has to split the final book into two movies for some arbitrary reason. It managed to be surprisingly grim at times, but other moments, intended to be tense or somber, turned out bizarrely comical due to some weird choices in direction. Some awkward final movies to correspond with the awkward third book.

I have not particularly been a fan of this series (this is the first one I've given a green rating on Criticker), but I was actually pretty taken with the final half-hour or so of this movie, which puts a twist on the triumph-over-evil-overlord narrative that makes it stand apart from Return of the Jedi or Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It revs up slowly and a sewer chase/fight with a bunch of Gollums is a real groaner, but the final act kind of justifies the series' existence for me.

A lot of the dialogue/exposition scenes were dull & I still didn't think I really understood what was going on. It was fairly predictable, too. Even Lawrence seemed bored with it. Instead of riding the rode to victory on a wave of bullets, arrows, and explosions -- which is what we're all here for GOD DAMN IT -- Mockingjay Part 2 follows J-Law underground, away from the action, as she drudges about in a sewer all wet and tired, occasionally crying. She kills some people and it's cool for a few minutes but that's about it. The plot relays from one stupid scene to the next until the foregone conclusion is thrown in our face and the credits roll. Mockingjay Pt. 2 is definitely not bad, but it's also not great. For every fantastic set piece or well-directed/well-acted scene we enjoy, we are made to bear with a ton of slow exposition that feels like it could have been done in half the time. The film's ending is really well handled, however, and probably does that part better than the book. There's more style than the first half of this two-parter, but the much darker tone of the Mockingjay installments slows the film's pace to a crawl.

While there may be "much worse games to play," there aren't many worse lines you could say. (THE DOMESTICATION OF KATNISS EVERDEEN.)

Boring, annoying and dumb. While the other films weren't smart either, at least they were somewhat entertaining. This one drags on forever and some scenes are so stupid its almost insulting.

After the non-movie that was Part 1, this finally kicks into gear and delivers something. But it's not in any way good. I'd rated the first 2 movies fairly high, but the over-long conclusion is a poor way to end the franchise. Again, Catniss is reduced to a bit-player with events taking place largely outside of her control. Large parts of the film seem like filler due to a simple tale being stretched across 2 films. A boring and predictable end to a franchise that showed a glimmer of potential.

This was without doubt the lesser experience in the whole series. A poor and unsatisfying finale to a nonetheless interesting premise. *Okay

Well, it's over now, I don't have to subject myself to it anymore. I cringed when the zombie-thingies showed up and every time Katniss tried to act " strong . These movies are just not my thing. I thought I'd at least like one of them, guess not.

Maybe I've gotten tired of this, but it felt rather flat, just going through the motions of scenes to check off, especially the opening and final thirds.

While its an impressive accomplishment, making four films that tell an epic story, this closing chapter didn't feel all that epic. There were some large scale moments, and some interesting intrigue, but it felt long, and bloated and forced at times. Sutherland had a good end and Moore got hers appropriately, but it didn't feel like I had wrapped up anything of importance, like I did with Star Wars, or LOTR or even the Harry Potter series.

The close of the series marks the highest point for me since the first, though none scored better than terrible. I give two reasons for this. First, I was pretty satisfied with the body count, especially watching a crap ton of citizen lemmings get mowed down by the army, stroking my hate for the series and it's inhabitants in general. The second plus was, simply put, the finality of being able to say "thank god that's over."
