Pretty and fun enough that I'll rewatch it from time to time. The script is the major star, but Judi Dench is - as usual - a ton of fun to watch whenever she's on screen.

Funny but uninspired Wilde adaptation.

A worthy adaptation of the classic play, with additions that help the film instead of hindering it.

Lacking the venom and class-consciousness of the stage versions, but Wilde's script is good enough that even stripped of all that, there's still a charming, servicable comedy underneath.

This would have worked had Wilde written a chamber comedy instead of a wicked satire.

Obviously very good source material but that in itself does not make a good film. The cast are all okay - Dench as always is very good - but the directing seems to lack assertiveness and vision.

I am of the opinion that Oscar Wilde's play is simply too hilarious to ruin; at the very least, this film has his words to its credit. Its execution is not particularly clever, and comes off very staged in parts, but it's still undeniably fun and more than a little charming.

A silly, but charming, romp into 18th century high society. Full of entertaining comic performances. A humorous lighthearted story with clever dialog and funny twists. Also playful music. Two men each concoct a make believe persona and play their phony parts to hilarious effect. The story is complicated and convoluted, but maintains its sense of humor. Frances O'Conner and Colin Firth were wonderful. Reese Witherspoon, Rupert Everett and Judi Dench are also quite entertainment.

Oddly uninspired and botched attempt at modernizing the play; it focuses much more on the playful, farcical elements than the '52 version, yet it manages to somehow be (a lot) less fun. Firth was good, and Dench. Everett, however, was very disappointing and Witherspoon was simply dreadful in an important role. A huge disappointment.

Typical American flick. It was practically ruined by the "improvements" over the original, genius play. I think the music was the worst part of it. What makes Hollywood types think everything should go accompanied with a jazzy orchestra blasting in every transition?

Light hearted movie that doesn't take itself too seriously. Nice entertainment up to the last 15 min.

It's alright for a 1920s French drawing room picture. The only problem is that the script is a bitterly sarcastic Victorian satire.

Not as good as the 1952 version of this Oscar Wilde play, alas.

This is one of the funniest films!! Wilde's wit is so hilarious and every time I watch it seems there's something else funny that I hadn't noticed before. Firth and Everett are so perfect in their roles, and their chemistry is brilliant! I adore O'Connor and Witherspoon in their respective roles, and I feel that they both bring something very different and very similar to their characters. If you haven't seen this, and you enjoy witty humor, than I encourage you to try this!

An average presentation of Oscar Wilde's greatest play. Not a patch on the original film. Rather obviously played as a period piece and some of the lines are overplayed. Lavish costumes and scenery.

A decent Oscar Wilde adaptation. I'm a fan of Colin Firth in these types of roles. It's not a fantastic movie, but I enjoyed it enough to remember that I enjoyed it.

No disrespect to the great Oscar Wilde, but this was like a really flatly directed stage play. Boring fluff for middle-aged film snobs.

It's good for a period comedy, but not exactly saturday night fare. The cast is fantastic though.
