Sometime in the 1910's, when young rebel Konno Tôgo is thrown out of his religious school in Kobe for brawling and fraternizing too closely with the local girls, his mother puts him under the trust of an acquaintance of hers, the principal of a provincial junior high school. Formal, 'Japanese' 1920 period depiction of rowdy brash late teen, a near Yakuza, whose unconventional attitude gets him into many scrapes from which his wits then get him out (bloodless semi-violence)... in the very end though there's a situation that will beat him & perhaps prepare him for life and it's realities. Well shot (tho copy I saw needed remaster) "apprentice" work from later highly regarded director. Male lead carries this, does well. Somewhat unrealistic but, in the end, poignant.
