Heavy-handed at times, but well-made overall.

Oh man. Sometimes you need a reminder of how complicated the situation in the middle east is. But everything here just existed to lecture the viewer. The problems of justice and national identity are elaborated quiet well but there came a point were I just thought: Ok, I get it, move on please. The ending is ridiculous and the music reminded me of Eurodance.

Almost a Farhadi courtroom drama in its total lack of subtlety. Sometimes the politic tensions seem too on the nose -- maybe a didactic way to explain things to Western audiences -- and that makes the film too expositive. Actors pay off, though, and I like how they settle the whole thing not through the court's decision, but with another encounter -- this time the Palestinian makes an offense and Lebanese wounds him with a punch. They end up smiling to each other off court.

The plot is simple, but the way it's executed is beautiful. Carried by excellent performances, an intriguing narrative with well-done twists & turns, & a finale that's satisfying without feeling too fairytale, it's a greatly crafted & excellently acted political drama that shines a spotlight on a topic & conflict that's worth paying attention to. It isn't without flaws- some characters feel pretty underutilized and the courtroom sequences drag after a while. Still, it's very worth a watch.

The Insult uses its familiar courtroom drama framework to deliver a hard-hitting statement on modern Middle Eastern politics that's as gripping as it is thought-provoking.

Disappointment. The starting point is good enough to develop a strong story but the director can not manage to meet my expectations. There is a fancy, formalist cinematic look to show the duality between those character and also between the lawyers. It looked like somehow dull to me and the story was oftenly loose.
