I could watch De Niro play this character for hours. Could have been twice as long and I would not have minded. This should be a TV show. De Niro is just an absolute pleasure. Without him this would be pretty much nothing.

I liked it. It was kinda funny and didn't rely so much on 'LOOK AT YOUNG PEOPLE AND INSTAGRAM' as poorly as some other films do. Had some decent jokes for sure. The drama was mostly effective, though the way this handled its subject matter (gender politics, old vs young) was not in the least bit subtle, in both the dialogue and the way the scenes were staged. De Niro and Hathaway are good together. The script flirted with flipping conventions around but ended in a Hollywood way.

A cute drama-comedy that provides a good amount of character development, but doesn't have much plot development to back it up. It has some weird gender politics that pop up from time to time, but I still don't mind 2 hours of watching De Niro and Anne Hathaway hang out.

Unfortunately, The Intern doesn't have enough experience to know where to go from there. It's quite frankly too PC-minded to suggest that anything in today's or yesterday's societal choices are solidly good or bad. And so it never quite resolves its story. It tiptoes around its family issues and infidelities, throws in a few crude sight gags and dabbles in some strange silliness to cover up the awkwardness it seems to feel, and then slaps on a quick bow right before the closing credits.

It's just some pretty fluffy stuff really. It's light and has this vale of dream-like-ness to it that nothing really seems too serious. De Niro is great and Hathaway is good to. But it's one of those where is it headed type scenarios, and they try to fill the time with some poor plot devices, that ultimately, I think, brings this down a little.

Viewed January 24, 2016. Watching this movie was NOT my decision, but I rationalized it because Quentin Tarantino said it was one of the best movies of 2015. Well, perhaps this is unsurprising, but he's wrong. He's always had strange taste in cinema though. Anyway, this movie isn't good, but it also isn't for me, and knowing that, I think I still get the appeal of Nancy Myers' movies. There's something calming about watching a bunch of movie stars put forth zero effort into sheer banality.

This definitely did its job well enough for me! I like the chemistry between the whole cast, but in particular between the two leads; de Niro is great at this sort of thing and Hathaway is just a great actress all-around. But I do have to concede that there were a lot of missed opportunities here to make a stronger statement, or to go in a more hard-line direction dramatically. It may leave you feeling that the dramatic elements were sort of lifeless and inconsequential. But go check it out!

One of those movies that plays it's themes ina very guarded way and decides not to make a point for fear of being too controversial. When films have all the right plays to make a big push in showing a different outcome then a typical Hollywood comedy they should do so. Especially ones that in the end go against the entire psrsonality they have built for their lead in the first hour and a half. Endings don't need to be cute and tied with a bow, because the real world sure isn't

With his easygoing disposition, old-school work habits ("can't leave til the boss leaves"), and wisdom overflowing, De Niro's Ben is beyond adorable, heading a generation comparison that focuses on more than just easy cultural contrasts (still good; see his attache case), crafting dynamic relationships that bridge the age gap in hilarious (see the Ocean's heist adventure) and moving ways (see the hotel scene with an excellent Hathaway). Matt's cliche apology was an out-of-place climax though.

Meyers avoids stereotypes & gender roles like the plague, except when she's wishing today's men were more like Don Draper. Not that Draper would ever agree 2 be a house husband, but never mind. It's un-PC to say, but Deniro's open-minded/feminist old man is not only implausible 4 an old man, but 4 a human at all, as its no exaggeration 2 say he is more angel than man & Michael Landon in Highway to Heaven had more edge. Still Meyers' worlds r so pretty & nice, it's still nice 2 spend time there

DeNiro and Hathaway make this film much better than it ought to be, giving their respective characters a depth that seems to be at best sketched out in the script. As a comedy it's ok, it certainly has funny moments and lines, but there's a very noticeable generation gap in the writing that becomes particularly pronounced given that the film is about the generation gaps of the characters.

For once, it's not De Niro with the most limited acting range, it's Adam Devine. The writing focuses on character development over plot, through a series of slice-of-life scenes such as Hathaway and De Niro setting up a Facebook account. It was actually refreshing to watch. It did go overboard at times -- particularly the cougar women and the heist scene.

The best thing about it is the fact that De Niro's character isn't bumbling, or mocked--he's a wise, efficient businessman whom everybody likes and respects, and who makes Hathaway's business and life a lot better. It's a likable dramedy about good, talented people, and it allows De Niro to act with a light touch that we haven't seen in some time. Hathaway's pretty tolerable here, too. It's good stuff--a little slight, a little goofy, but it genuinely likes these characters, and so do we.

Since society often puts retired people out to pasture, Hollywood rarely tells their stories. But this film tackles aging in addition to its sly commentary on sexism and masculinity. Anne Hathaway (an exemplary Millennial actress) is super believable as a PMC entrepreneur. Still, her character's marriage drama makes for the less appealing bits. But I constantly smiled at the girly Scent of a Woman vibe of an older person giving heartwarming advice during a crises. Recommended.

The reviews were not kind when this movie came out which is why I missed out on watching it on the big screen. It is a fine movie that doesn't become boring at any time. Robert De Niro brings out all stops to be the stand-out actor here. Anne Hathaway charms you as the successful yet troubled soul. The story is unique and almost any one can watch it and possibly even associate with some parts of it. I call it a must-watch.

I was afraid the film would be patronising toward female bosses but that's not the case. I liked the bond of mutual respect that forms between the 2 lead, but apart from that, the story felt a bit thin.

I have a soft spot for Anne Hathaway & especially Robert De Niro. The pairing was a good choice. This has a few good gags & funny moments, but it takes no chances & does nothing particularly groundbreaking. Kind of a one note wonder, milking the premise a bit too much. I did like his mature calm approach, her representing the hard working successful girl & their awkward pairing. But surrounding everything good was a lot of rather uninspired filler that added little & occasionally subtracted.

Forced in front of a light comedy starring a post-'90s De Niro and the queen of mediocre, I was fully expecting bland & inoffensive - but never imagined it'd be this bad. Two hours of complete and total nothingness - no laughs, no drama, no climax, and barely a story to begin with. Seems satisfied enough with condescending messages that pensioners aren't completely useless, and women have the right to work hard. And so what? Quite possibly the most pointless film I've ever seen.

I was most engaged during the first half which seems to back the benefits of "old fashioned" values such as hard work and good manners. It works seeing De Niro's character make himself relevant in a young energetic work place. What doesn't work nearly as well is the 2nd half, when some of Hathaway's bad habits are pandered to, and never called out. Basically from the house break in onwards it really loses relevance.

This is a very comfortable movie to watch, and it achieves it by making friendly abstractions of these people. Now that and the general high gloss should worry me aesthetically, but De Niro's character is a rock - morally he holds this world together.

The Intern (2015) with Robert De Niro & Anne Hathaway can be summarized with the following statements: 1. A total feel-good experience. So much goodness all over. 2. A total predictable experience. Everything you expect to happen happens. So enjoy it for what it is and don't expect anything other then the safe road.

The film walks a careful line as it develops the Ben-Jules relationship. It's determined not to be a romantic comedy, but it's got so many of the elements that think it will go there while praying it won't. It succeeds on the sincerity of its main characters: we extend Jules and Ben the benefit of the doubt because they extend it to each other and to those around them. I really can't say enough about how sweet this movie is. I just wanted to give all the actors a hug when it was over.

This movie is actually fairly entertaining despite the fact that it shouldn't be. Its hackneyed and cliched and although there is a lot of development so motivations are clear, nothing really happens for huge stretches. However, DeNiro is so endearing that even the normally somewhat repulsive Hathaway doesn't drag him down. Not great by any means, but you could do worse.

A good, mostly clean, comedy never gets too old and Robert De Niro isn't too old to intern at a tech company. This movie has some really nice moments. It does seem like it steals from the Devil Wears Prada (especially, funny enough, Anne Hathaway's part) but that's not a bad thing. Rene Russo was also an unexpected but welcome addition to the cast. The movie doesn't really paint a favorable light to stay-at-home dads, but luckily the film doesn't focus too much on that...

Not bad, but quite cliched view of young and elder people in the 2010s. It would be amusing to compare how men/women are portrayed in this film vs. how they were usually portrayed in the films of the 80's. That's why it is so conflicting that the protagonist needs to rely so much on De Niro's father figure instead of being truly independent. Makes you wonder what the actual message of the film is.
