Knives Out and Get Out vamp out, but with no froo-froo symbolism, just a good, simple tale about a man who drinks poor people's blood.

This was a positive surprise. Absolutely nothing spectacular, but still a fine film. The story is relatively basic, although takes a bit of a twist to something at the same time dumber but also sort of more interesting towards the end. The cast is perfectly serviceable and the production in general is completely fine. I thought this would suck but it was completely fine.

“The Invitation” is a slickly produced horror film that offers an enjoyable 100-minute thrill ride. Although it doesn't break any new ground in the genre, Nathalie Emmanuel's strong lead performance and the skilled set-up make it worth the watch.

This is true classic gothic horror, and so much fun. Really commits to the "hallmark romance" goes off the rails vibe. ...Plucky working-class heroine falls for charming, mysterious, hunky lord-of-the-manor, but something sinister is going on in shadows... It's cliched and kitschy and so much fun. Just don't expect to be scared.

Gothic romance with some vaguely Downton Abbey-esque settings and class dynamics devolves gradually into a more cliche haunted house action horror. Thomas Doherty looks freakily like they went back in time and kidnapped 1950s Sean Connery and brought him to the present; look up pics if you doubt me. Movie contains these occasional halfhearted but jarring attempts at racial commentary that kill the mood like if every tenth bite of your movie theater popcorn was a Brussels sprout.

I saw the unrated version so I'd imagine that's an immediate +1pt for this type of movie. I can't imagine enjoying a watered down PG-13 type affair for this. Very good first half to set things up and then it gets silly of course but it was fun silly. Quite good for this type of affair honestly. Solid pacing, good acting, not too many cheap jump scares.. 6.6 for me.

I'm not going to say I hated it because I didn't. The modern rich person gothic setting was nice, the lead was endearing enough. Her snark was fun. But this was not in the least bit scary and just followed horror tropes that we are used to, and doesn't refresh them in any way. The plot was way too predictable to create even an ounce of tension. There are some cool scenes scattered throughout. And it was generic. But generic isn't bad by default, it's very average/decent.

The Invitation is merely just as generic and underwhelming as most of the movies from this sub-genre. Aesthetically this is a very solid film, but it’s incredibly cliche and not in a “it’s so bad it’s good” way, but more so like a boring bad. Which is kinda weird how simple this whole premise is, as the screenwriting doesn’t even have to be that great, but it just feels so disposable. To her credit, Emmanuel was my favorite part, and she really tried to save this.

Once good scene and it’s when the reveal happens. The kind of movie people will use to prove horror is bad

Aesthetically, everything is perfect, I also liked the directing style, but unfortunately the script is mediocre. It's like a soap opera and mostly boring except for some horror scenes. The Invitation could have been a much better movie.

Raise your hand if you completely forgot what kind of movie this was! For someone who has never directed horror before, this was watchable, albeit heavily jump-scare reliant. I didn't dislike it or regret seeing it, but it just presented me nothing new or terribly fascinating. It also, of course, inflicts upon itself plenty of tropes, faulty horror movie logic, and occasionally bad dialogue. You could do worse this weekend, but if you're a horror aficionado, you'll find little meat on this bone.
