This movie was written for 12 years olds. Children are likely to enjoy it. It makes buffoons of the filmmakers and actors involved. The writing is poor and sometimes atrocious. The narration was nearly unbearable. I was somehow entirely entertained while being thoroughly unimpressed. It is full of campy performances, kooky characters, nutty subplots, and overzealous special effects. It was just bizarre enough to make it somehow worth watching.

The Iron Mask is colourful nonsense. Having recently watched Viy, so with low expectations, this sequel ups the silliness and the film is better off for it. It's not a good film, not by a long shot, but the casting of Chan and Schwarzenegger helps. There are issues with the ADR/ dubbing paired with a bad script that can occasionally come off as racially insensitive. Nevertheless, there is something undeniably fun about the film, especially if watched in a group.

Half of this “film” was shot in a closet in a China backlot, the other shot in a locker in a Russian warehouse, all of it was “written” by Google Translate, and the performers recited their ADR (literally all of the dialogue) alone without preparation, watching the previs footage in 160p to line it up. A surreal experience.

the setting is interesting, but everything is such a jumbled mess, with too many subplots and new things introduced halfway through that it sorts of loses the viewer

A big step down from the first movie and this definitely felt more like a kid's movie.

A live-action cartoon that suffers from awful editing and sound production as well as some overbearing special effects. But as long as it maintains its silliness, it's a pretty fun Munchausenesque wuxia fantasy. Schwarzenegger's a hoot.
