Caine, the hardest-working man in show business, stars in this repellent adaptation of the Benchley novel. Caine curses a lot, Warner jabbers a lot, Punch-McGregor wears a faceful of mud, and Frank is an obnoxious brat of a kid you'd like to feed to the sharks. Oh, and did I mention how much I really dislike this mess?

I have no idea what I just watched but I didn't hate it. Above all, it's a mess- An overlong, exploitive, crass... father/son relationshap movie... with pirates. And a couple of tits thrown in for good measure. One of those rare movies where the target demographic is absolutely no one.

Much like Benchley's "The Deep", this one peaked with the poster.

I love the whimsical score as the pirates blast through the young navy crew. Such an off-beat, weird movie...

Starts off pretty cool with a great slasher vibe. Unfortunately it soon descends into a weird pirate adventure film with wacky music and blood. The whole thing is goofy and idiotic but Michael Caine plays his role completely straight which makes things a bit more interesting even if it doesn't make things more entertaining. A lot goes on by it feels overlong and dull and for an under two hour film that's just wrong.

Before I had experienced the wonderment of fatherhood I couldn't understand why Michael Caine kept fighting for that little brat. Having seen this post-child for a second time, I'm not much closer. Not so veiled warning to my son: don't be snotty.

Boring and no Horror... it seems a movie about a thing and then on the half, more or less, it is about another thing.
