(2014-15 Disneython #13:) The last feature to be produced by Walt Disney himself puts his era of Disney to bed on a high note. Characters with full personalities and a strong sense of place, with great voices (especially Phil Harris as Baloo) and music, both the songs and the atmospheric, jungly background tunes. Also, there's real truth in the ending, where Mowgli glimpes a girl for the first time and is immediately, permanently hooked on pussy.

It was a fun and nostalgic experience watching this again after so many years. I remember my feelings when I was younger while watching this. It seemed dark and tough to sit through back then. While it's not as dark as I remember, I see that the pace of the film might have been difficult for a child to watch. It's a good classic, if only a little slow. And man, those Disney Platinum DVDs are sure worth the price. Just thought I'd get that out there.

Disney's jazziest movie, with some gorgeous background art and a very memorable supporting cast. There's not much to the actual narrative, but it's certainly likable enough to be remembered as a minor Disney classic.

Classic Disney. One of their finest from the 1960's, "The Jungle Book" is genuinely funny, endearing, well voiced and has some great songs.

Didn't see this properly as a child. Groovy music, amusing moments and the sympathetic Bagheera. Pairs well with a glass of whiskey in the middle of the night.

One of the best by Disney. The Jungle Book isn't as dark or deep as the original Rudyard Kipling story, but the lighter story used in this film is fun, and it has great music. Really good!

Hated this when I first saw it; but in retrospect it's so much better than most of the latter-day "Made Without Walt" Disney animations that the company has tortured us with over the years.

The Jungle Book is one of the best early Disney movies in my opinion. The characters of Baloo the Bear and Bagheera the Panther are memorable. Baloo is fun and carefree. The song Bare Necessities is so catchy and endlessly listenable that it makes The Jungle Book one of those Disney movies that you don't mind watching again and again with your children. There are some problematic moments in the movie but they aren't as bad as some other movies.

As far as the musical score goes this is the pinnacle of Disney in my opinion. The story structure of Mowgli just being a by-stander while side characters take over their cues is perfect for a kid movie for instant identification (mad hard to pull off though). The song "Trust in me" is just poor genius; in some meetings people try to pull the same trick with me so it is amusing.

A film about three friends that have a roaring good time together until one of them gets a girlfriend and doesn't talk to the others ever again. Always hated those assholes. Still, this being one of the first movies I ever saw, it does make me awefully nostalgic! Also love how the atmosphere changes in each episode.

Enjoyable adaptation of Kipling's tales of Mowgli, a boy raised in the wild jungle. The story is standard boy's adventure stuff, but the animations for Kaa and Shere Khan are fantastic.

I don't really remember that much about this film, except for this; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWwRi8o6NOo. That would freak the hell out of me when I was a kid. Then the tape would go black for ten seconds, then it would stop. Then The Truth would peer into my house through the front door. I'd call out for my mum, but she wouldn't come to me. I was home alone. Then Sweetums would come out from the hallway and try to give me a monster hug, and I would cry and shout for help.

The Jungle Book is one of my favourite Disney films that I watched repeatedly as a child and I still love to revisit. The characters are timeless and all round the voice work here is some of Disney's finest, but the warm and lovable Baloo the Bear in particular is possibly my favourite of all Disney's characters. The animation, humour and story telling still entertains, but above all else the music and songs are unforgettable, infectious and in my opinion this was Disney at their musical peak.

My Disney-loving friend wouldn't allow me to interpret the film as an allegory, so I'll have to ditch my pretentious version of this mini-review and just say that it's light and fun to watch. Great music and lovely animations raise it up. The story itslef feels very rushed. I might not have had issues with the pacing if I hadn't seen the 2016 remake first which felt more fleshed out. It's probably more enjoyable for kids but having seen it for the 1st time as an adult I can't say it's too hard to sit through.

It's an okay Disney movie. The music is definitely the strongest point of the movie, followed closely by Baloo. Otherwise it just kind of feels like a string of random encounters leading to an unsatisfying showdown with the villain and an ending that while amusing is a also a bit strange. The movie isn't helped by Mowgli being kind of a whiny brat the whole movie.

I love it when I was a child, it was actually my first movie at the cinema, when it was shown during a rerun, therefore I have a special connection to it. It's not necessarily one of the best Disney's but it's good to see that my 3-year-old niece love it today, too!

not much in the way of plot, but a fun movie to watch nonetheless. I liked the music, but that is really something you'd expect from a disney film. The elephant patrol, however, stole their scenes so much that just being in the movie is enough for me to recommend it. I would actually like to see a spin-off about them. That would really be fun.

Pretty good, I suppose. I remember some of the scenes with the tiger and the snake scaring me when I was little. I'm sure if I saw them today they'd be more likely to make me laugh -- not necessarily because they're so poorly done, but because I'm sure there's nothing very scary about them.

Although it movies at a very jerky setpiece-to-setpiece showstopper-to-showstopper pace, the soundtrack is one the best that Disney has ever produced. Also many of the sidecharacters are perhaps the most scene-stealing until Timon and Pumbaa enter the limelight. Shere Khan is a terryfying villain, and across him on the specter is the literally hypnotic Kaa, and the one scene they share is perhaps some of the best character interaction animation has brought about.

It really only has one catchy song and one timeless moment, but that's all that it's needed for the last 50+ years. Though the characters- particularly Baloo- are enjoyable & the animation is typically great, the story is just alright & the major villain is more than a little underwhelming. A must-watch classic from Disney's library, but not necessarily one of their absolute best.
