William Powell does his best to raise this film out of mediocrity but unfortunately he just didn't have enough to work with.

Great seeing Powell in something different. He was suave and delivered his lines perfectly as usual. Interesting war drama, with some light and fun moments.

William Powell gets involved in the Anglo-Irish wars. But that's only a backdrop to a sappy love story with an old flame who'd now married to one of his colleagues in the British army. Which kinds of kills the movie as just another love drama. Powell is naturally dignity himself, even in scandal with women, and the one person that held this up. Powell is true class!
