The Key

Intriguing war drama which works best when dealing with the disconnect from personal relationships which can happen with serviceman - and the women they leave behind, as beautifully personified by hale and hearty Howard, and meek and cowed Loren. Had the film followed through on its opening passages - dealing with the ethics on both sides of women being used as commodities to be 'passed around' - this could have been one of the great, genuinely original war films of its era...

after watching this movie i truly wonder why it's not up there listed among the great war movies of the era. a wonderful and unique story, that makes tug boats seem more romantic. it could have had a more feel-good ending though.
