Eddie Cantor is one of the most under-rated comedians of all time. I think a lot of people would get a kick out of ol' Banjo Eyes' movies if they just had a chance to see them. THE KID FROM SPAIN is a good place to start, with neat music and some real laughs. Also the obligatory blackface scene, be warned.

Great opening, not so much the rest of the film.

What a way to start a movie! Waking up in a girls dormitory in full Busby Berkeley style! With Toby Wing, my favorite Hollywood blond, getting a lot of the spotlight! This Eddie Cantor comedy is best when it's a Busby musical The worst part of the film was Robert Young as Cantor's straight man sidekick. Wacky comedy is not Young's thing. Cantor is great! The script not up to his level, but there was plenty of naughty bits and even a wild bullfight for the conclusion so there are plenty to love.

Viewed March 8, 2021. This opens with a great Busby Berkeley number set in a girls dormitory at a co-ed college. It closes with a Berkeley number where one of his famous kaleidoscopic images is composed of people wearing blackface—genuinely one of the most upsetting images I've seen in a movie. In between these two events, Leo McCarey directs Eddie Cantor in some pretty amusing schtick.
