This film has a lot of exciting scenes and action sequences. The cast does a good job in this movie as well. John Woo has a very interesting visual directing style in this film. Overall I would recommend this action story.

Too silly to work as either part drama or thriller, but if you're looking for priceless Hong Kong 80's Shooting Dudes In A Cool Way A Lot Of Times Until They Are Dead And Also No Longer Alive stuff, this is the good shit. The one female character has all the depth of a NPC on an escort quest though, and I feel it's important to mention tha~[*is violently gunned down behind computer, doves fly out of monitor*]

foreign language, action, mobster, crime, buddy cop, romance, thriller, satire, drama starring Chow Yun-Fat as assassin Charlie Chaplin in a re-imagining of City Lights. It's often good and paced extra-ordinarily well but the absurd romance and over the top action nearly borders on parody by the end. It ends up being how much I expect to like a John Woo movie. Enjoyable to watch but nothing top tier. I wonder how much the dove budget was.

The gunfight at a Catholic church makes this a true classic of contemporary action cinema, but everything that comes before it is also amazing. Codes of honor allow Ah Jong's contractor to betray him, than sacrific himself get him the money he deserved. The over-sentimental relationship Danny Lee's character develops for Ah Jong kind of dissects everything you expect from the typical macho actioner. Actually, our killer is driven by love -- even though his blind girl barely has a role here.

Whereas I enjoyed Hard-Boiled and was quite forgiving of the cheesiness, and thus willing to get right to the violence, this is a little much. The story is just not interesting, and while the shootouts are certainly entertaining, it's not enough to make this a great flick. It's enjoyable though, and there are moments--such as when he does accidentally shoot the singer--that flirt with some severity, only to squander that with tedium. But, shooting!
