I remember this was the shit back in the day but I gave this 'yere another crank today and it ain't aged too well.

Certainly one of the most important Edison film, but it's still, you know, Edison-y. He wasn't exactly looking to make fine art here.

Two ugly people kissing? Surely that's something that's never happened before, better film it before it's too late!

The director didn't quite entice me with The Kiss. I couldn't find any motivation behind what was happening which made the plot very bare. Character development was lacking other than that guys totally awesome mustache. He's obviously a lady killer.

And from here, a whole new industry was born!

i was turned on, won't lie.

an interesting watch just in terms of a social experiment. i always find early filmic endeavours fascinating, and there's something oddly romantic and wonderful about seeing people who lived over a 100 years ago move and breathe before your eyes, as if they were here now. this one is too short to leave any lasting impression, but again is a fascinating portrayal of intimacy at the turn of the century.

I appreciate old films of historical importance as much as any film enthusiast, and while this is ground breaking in terms of content, I've never seen two people so ham-handedly perform a kiss. It's as if they don't know what it's supposed to look like. It left me puzzled and quite distressed without really knowing why. I don't really care why they were kissing like two shy mustache-twiddling 4th graders who have snuck away during a school excursion. There's just no enjoyment value here.

Both actors pack some character into 20 seconds of screen time.

Gross.

Some pretty terrible chemistry between the two leads makes me want to know what they're saying to each other even more.

It's cute. Especially the last four seconds.
