Typical Steven King lousy story adapted with even more lousy special effects. I am sick of Steven Kings terrible stories with their pointless stupid 5 minute plots told over the course of an hour and a half. How does he make his idiotic mini stories engaging to watch, and why until you get to the end do you wonder just how in the world you managed to sit through the entire crappy movie. I hope I never again attempt to watch another Steven King movie, they are all a waste of time.

Uh, Cousin Balki gets eaten by vicious Pac-men? Impossible to go wrong. Worth watching for the cheesy "jump into the air holding hands" freeze-frame at the close of the miniseries.

For hours an impending doom creeps closer. The terrible sound of distant cereal popping is now replaced by the screeching of a defective whipper-snipper. The actors prepare their best o face as the menace bursts through the trees... then the audience bursts out laughing. CGI fail. What holds your interest before that is Pinchot (aka Balkie!). His outbursts of self-entitled obnoxiousness and hysteria-fuelled rants are unparalleled. That scenery chewing outpaces anything the Langoliers can muster.

Strong first half with nothing of interest to reveal once the mystery of it all dies down. This cast is probably the most varied, in terms of talent and range, in all of moviedom.

A lot of successful suspense. intriguing mystery and creepy moments/atmosphere. Good and interesting explanation to the mystery, and a good ending. But in the middle my interest declines when there's some dumb paranoia action stuff and characters making dumb decisions sometimes. But it does go back to normal soon after.

The book was better, as are most Stephen King adaptations. The graphical effects were lacking. Despite its shortcomings, the film was still entertaining.

This emerges as a deft King translation that scores on several levels -- as an atmospheric fear flick, a trippy time-travel adventure, and an engrossing disaster drama populated with complex characters brought to life by an excellent cast. Under Holland's direction, it represents a rare case of an elongated running time being used to add nuance, ambience, and suspense, with no unnecessary filler to kill the story flow.

For 70 minutes this is watchable, even if the standard is only that of a below-average made-for-TV movie. But in the final act, the appalling $10 "special effects" turn the whole movie into a ridiculous joke instead of a grippng sci-fi thriller. Worth seeing, just to see what it would look like if you let your 8-year-old brother draw some monsters in Microsoft Paint on a 1980s bedroom computer, and slap them on top of a dramatic work costing a few million dollars. And starring David Morse.

There is something eerily effective about the concept that holds up to this day, but you should watch it for nostalgic reasons only: To remember a time when tv-series was close-ups upon close-ups, overacting and no lower standards for how bad CGI could be, and for a time in television history when the black character called everyone 'Mister', and none of the others would lament his ultimately redundant demise.

Bronson Pinchot turns in a great performance but everyone else might as well be cardboard cutouts. Add that to the lethargic pace (three hours from a novella? Really?) and the awful effects and you've got yet another sloppy, third-rate Stephen King TV miniseries, and from one of his better works, too.

There is a true air of mystery hidden in the script for this one. Enough that it will probably draw you in. If not the wild over the top performances (lookin' at you Bronson Pinchot) will. The infamous ending does bring it down to be sure. But enjoy the ride, its worth it.

The only thing that my fuzzy memory of this was correct about were the cheap-o special effects, otherwise this is very enjoyable and effective. Folks gripe about the performances, and while they aren't quite award winning none of them struck me as particularly awful.
