The Last American Hero

An odd choice for the National Board of Review's 1973 Top 10; a low-key, semi-fictionalized biography of a stock-car racer (Jeff Bridges) who's learned his driving skills running his father's moonshine. Generally enjoyable, with good local flavor, solid acting, and a nice theme song sung by Jim Croce. However, there's just not that much to the story, and the key supporting role of a NASCAR groupie (Valerie Perrine) is badly underdeveloped. Best recommended for fans of NASCAR and Bridges.
