The priceless Blue Water sapphire is coveted by the heirs of Sir Hector Geste - his new wife, Flavia; his daughter, Isabel; and his adopted twin sons, heroic Beau and pathetic Digby. When Sir Hector takes to his deathbed (where he remains for the duration of the film), Beau absconds with the stone, to keep it from his stepmother. Flavia pursues him to North Africa, dispensing sexual favors to promote her schemes. (imdb)

Feldman complained his cut was butchered by Universal--a story later backed by York--but it's difficult to see signs of greatness in this lazy slapstick. A good 'spoof' works on its own terms and is funny regardless of whether the viewer is familiar with the parodic target (e.g. The Naked Gun, Young Frankenstein etc.). This doesn't. Feldman had some talent, but his act was one note, relying too heavily on looking stupid and/or weird, and like Wilder (as director), he had no feel for pacing.

Kinda falls off inspiration-wise after a while, but still funny enough to be worth seeing

My experience with "The Last Remake of Beau Geste" was rather disappointing as a parody film. Instead of providing an hour of humor, it served more as a sleep inducer.

EVERYone got a movie deal out of YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN. Too bad Marty didn't make more. This is nothing more or less than an excuse for extreme Silliness, some of it inspired. Wish we could have gotten to see his cut.
